Quansah makes Leverkusen debut. |
Leverkusen have signed Quansah, an England Under-21 international who has made 30 appearances for Liverpool's first team, for €35m. The defender's contract runs until 2030. The deal is unrelated to the move to Liverpool of midfielder Florian Wirtz.
Liverpool have a buy-back clause in their agreement with Leverkusen for Quansah, which could rise to €70m if the 22-year-old meets certain criteria.
Quansah became the most expensive signing in Leverkusen's history, breaking the previous record of Kerem Demirbay (32 million euros) in 2020.
Quansah's arrival helps Leverkusen fill the void left by Jonathan Tah, after the centre-back moved to Bayern Munich. Quansah is expected to become a mainstay of Leverkusen under Erik ten Hag.
After completing the Quansah deal, Leverkusen will turn to strengthening their attack. Striker Malik Tillman (PSV) has reached an agreement to join the BayArena team for a fee of 15 million euros.
For Liverpool, the team earned 63.3 million euros from player sales this summer. Previously, "The Kop" said goodbye to Caoimhin Kelleher, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Nat Phillips.
