In the first match at the 2024 Olympics, Nguyen Thuy Linh (ranked 26th in the world ) faced Tiffany Ho (Australia, ranked 80th in the world), who was considered the lowest ranked player in the group. In the next match in Group K of the women's singles, Thuy Linh will face Beiwen Zhang (USA, ranked 11th in the world) at 1:30 p.m. on July 31. The winner of this match will advance to the knockout round. Because in the previous match, Beiwen Zhang also only took about 30 minutes to win 2-0 (21-9, 21-4) against Tiffany Ho. According to the coaching staff, despite her lower ranking, Thuy Linh still has the ability to win against Beiwen Zhang. At the age of 34, Beiwen Zhang is not rated highly for his endurance compared to Thuy Linh, who is in good shape at the age of 26. In their most recent confrontation in October 2023, Thuy Linh defeated Beiwen 2-1 (17-21, 21-12, 24-22) in the round of 32 of the Finnish Arctic Open. Another Vietnamese player at the 2024 Olympics, Le Duc Phat (ranked 70th in the world), will compete at 1:20 a.m. on July 31, against Fabian Roth (Germany, ranked 82nd in the world) in Group K of the men's singles.
