Flexible class organization according to subject groups
In the 2025-2026 school year, Lang Son Ethnic Boarding High School will enroll 180 students in grade 10, divided into 6 classes. From the beginning of July, the school organized the first meeting for all grade 10 students to receive applications and advise students and parents on choosing subject combinations in the spirit of the 2018 General Education Program.

At the first meeting, the teacher not only introduced an overview of the curriculum, but also carefully analyzed the teaching conditions at the school and future career development trends, thereby helping parents and students better understand when choosing a combination that suits their abilities and orientation."
A notable highlight of this school year is that the Lang Son Department of Education and Training encourages schools to increase the implementation of Chinese as a Foreign Language 1. This is a concrete step in the orientation of education in border areas, helping students develop foreign language skills associated with local characteristics, while opening up many career opportunities in the future.

“We have fully prepared the teaching staff, materials, facilities and necessary equipment to organize Chinese classes for 10th grade students this year,” Ms. Thao added.
Careful survey, thorough consultation
At Hoang Van Thu High School, the organization of counseling on choosing subject combinations is also implemented systematically and scientifically . In the 2025-2026 school year, the school will enroll 440 10th grade students. Immediately after the enrollment results were available, the school quickly conducted a survey on students' abilities, interests, and career orientation.
Mr. Dang Ngoc Tu - Principal of the school said: "Consulting on choosing subject combinations is not only a study orientation for three years of high school, but also affects the choice of career, university and college entrance exams. Not only surveying and analyzing student data, the school also organizes many effective career counseling activities: from thematic sessions, group counseling, to individual counseling for both students and parents. Here, students are provided with specific information about the subject combinations built at the school, the connection with university entrance exams and the entry requirements of the professions.
One of the new features applied by Hoang Van Thu High School this school year is that each student can register for two subject combinations. Based on that, the school will arrange classes and continue to monitor in the first weeks of the school year to promptly adjust if the student finds the combination they have chosen is not suitable.

“Every student has the right to choose according to their abilities and personal interests. Homeroom teachers and subject teachers play a key role in accompanying and supporting students in the early stages of the school year. During the learning process, if there are any changes, students are given the opportunity to adjust their combinations flexibly and appropriately,” Mr. Tu emphasized.
In addition to counseling students, the school also focuses on strengthening cooperation with parents. Parent meetings by subject group are organized to provide full information, answer questions and help parents find the most suitable direction for their children.
Implementing flexible subject combinations to meet diverse student needs requires teachers to have high capacity in organizing teaching and guiding personal development. Realizing this, high schools have proactively organized training for teachers on active teaching methods, student counseling skills and assessment criteria according to the orientation of the 2018 General Education Program.
