Preserving cultural identity associated with tourism development

Quang Ninh not only has beautiful nature, but also has a rich cultural tradition, from marine culture, mining workers' culture, to the unique culture of ethnic minorities... These are important foundations for the province to diversify tourism products, associated with the characteristics of indigenous communities, preserving and promoting local cultural identity.

Right at the foot of the sacred Yen Tu mountain are the Dao Thanh Y villages with many unique cultural features that have existed for hundreds of years, such as traditional festivals associated with long-standing customs and practices such as the coming-of-age ceremony, the new rice celebration, the housewarming ceremony... In 2024, the Dao Thanh Y Cultural Space Exhibition House was inaugurated, recreating the cultural space of the Dao Thanh Y people, from typical costumes, rammed earth houses, to artifacts, images, and simulations of rituals associated with the life, activities, and culture of the Dao Thanh Y people. Not only a place to preserve cultural heritage, the exhibition house has also become a space for traditional activities and education , combined with a model of community tourism for the Dao Thanh Y people in the area, which has also become a unique tourism product at the foot of Yen Tu mountain.

Ms. Truong Thi Vinh, a Thanh Y Dao person currently living in Yen Tu ward, shared: We are very happy to introduce the cultural features in our lives to everyone, and hope that these cultural features will not be lost, but will be preserved and passed on to future generations.

Meanwhile, in the Tay village of Ban Cau hamlet, Luc Hon commune, it is currently one of the ethnic minority villages being built on a pilot basis in association with the development of local community tourism in the province. There is Luc Na communal house, ancient brick houses that are preserved and maintained, and Then singing melodies that have been passed down from generation to generation by each Tay generation. These unique cultural values are always carefully preserved by the people, and they are always ready to "show off" to friends from all over the world.

Immediately after operating the new government apparatus, Luc Hon commune also identified tourism and service development as one of the important tasks and solutions to create a structural shift and breakthrough economic growth. In particular, it is necessary to exploit the advantages of the unique culture of the ethnic groups in the area, the beautiful and majestic natural landscape... to build appropriate plans and projects. From now until the end of the year, Luc Hon commune will coordinate with Binh Lieu commune and Hoanh Mo commune to organize a series of activities and events to stimulate demand, strengthen the connection of tourist routes, and continue to maintain and promote the effectiveness of folk art clubs in the area.

As one of the key members of the Then Club in the village, as well as the Party cell secretary and village head of Ban Cau, Ms. Ly Thi Hoang also expressed her hope that the province and the locality will soon pay more attention to developing the community tourism model of Ban Cau village, attracting tourists and improving the economic life of the people. That is also the basis for each person to feel secure in preserving and promoting the unique cultural values left by their ancestors.

The historical depth and cultural depth of Quang Ninh are still strongly imprinted on 630 cultural relics and historical sites spread across the province. Quang Ninh also has 3 heritages among the world heritages recognized by UNESCO: Ha Long Bay; Yen Tu - Vinh Nghiem - Con Son, Kiep Bac Heritage Complex; Then singing. In addition, there are 19 national intangible cultural heritages associated with the lifestyle and activities of ethnic communities living in the locality such as Kinh, Tay, Dao, San Chay, San Diu, Hoa... creating unique highlights for Quang Ninh tourism. These are also the resources and invaluable foundation for Quang Ninh to develop the cultural industry and heritage economy in the coming time.
