At around 8pm on August 19, Viettel Internet and mobile users reported that they had lost connection and had intermittent service. The problem occurred during peak hours, affecting the work and life of many subscribers. According to Tri Thuc - Znews , feedback about the network operator's problem came from customers in the southern provinces, especially in Ho Chi Minh City.
“I was calling my family in the countryside when the Internet suddenly went out. The mobile network signal also had no bars left,” My Duyen, a Viettel user living in Lai Thieu ward, Ho Chi Minh City, shared.
Meanwhile, network users in the North did not report any loss of signal. Ngoc Anh (residing in Tay Ho ward, Hanoi ) said she still used the mobile network to call her family in the countryside all evening without any problems.
On social networks, there have been a series of posts responding to the sudden loss of network connection, originating from Viettel customers.
At 9 p.m. the same day, the Viettel Saigon fanpage, which has a verified check mark on Facebook, posted that the Internet in Ho Chi Minh City was experiencing widespread problems. "Viettel's technical team has taken note and is checking to resolve the issue as soon as possible," the page wrote.

According to data from Google Trends, searches for the keyword Viettel increased sharply at 8:00 p.m. The areas with the highest searches were Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Duong (old), Ba Ria - Vung Tau (old), Long An , Vinh Long. Other keywords that were also searched a lot were "Viettel network dropout", "Viettel Wi-Fi switchboard", "Viettel SIM lost signal".
Meanwhile, according to Tri Thuc - Znews 's own source, the incident arose from a power outage at the regional management station of the above network operator. However, technical centers are often equipped with multi-layered power systems in case of sudden power outages. It is currently unclear why this station had a power outage.
The internet outage lasted for about 5 minutes. After that, users were able to access the internet again. However, the connection speed was not guaranteed. It was not until about 9pm that the connection stabilized again.
Just last June, Vinaphone also had problems nationwide. Users of this network reported losing signal and not being able to access the Internet.
According to a report by the Vietnam Internet Network Information Center (VNNIC) under the Ministry of Science and Technology, Viettel is currently the company providing the fastest transmission line, followed by CMC, VNPT and FPT.
