According to a survey by the Taiwan Health Agency (China), 30% of people gained 1.7 kg after Tet and about 50% of people exercised less, so weight gain is a common phenomenon.

Excess calorie trap due to snacking during Tet

Nutritionist You Weiming of St. Martin's Hospital in Taiwan (China) recommends that common types of calories in snacks include: soft drinks, soda and fruit juice, dried meat and biscuits, snacks and dishes made from nuts and dried fruits.

Therefore, if you have not finished all the leftover snacks from Tet, do not enjoy them alone, but share them with friends around you as soon as possible to avoid obesity.

Health risks of being overweight and obese

Obesity will greatly affect health. Normal weight and waist circumference are very important indicators to maintain good health. Nutritionist Hou Minyi of St. Martin's Hospital in Taiwan (China) recommends that people can measure their waist circumference and weigh themselves after the Lunar New Year.

If your waist circumference exceeds 90cm for men and 80cm for women, it means your waist is too big. To get the ideal weight for adults, you can calculate your current height and weight using the BMI calculator to see if your BMI is between 18.5 and 24.

Research shows that being overweight or obese (BMI≧24) is a major risk factor for chronic diseases such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease... If you find yourself overweight or obese, you should consult a nutritionist to manage your diet and gradually return to a normal diet.

3 tips to control weight after Tet

So, what should you eat to lose weight healthily?

Nutritionist Cai Yuqi, St. Martin's Hospital Taiwan (China) pointed out that the daily calorie requirement of adults is: Standard body weight 25 ~ 30 calories (this amount of calories is recommended for people with light labor level) such as office workers.

For example: Mr. A is 170cm tall and weighs about 63kg, so he will need about 1575 ~ 1890 calories a day.

In addition, nutritionist You Weiming also shares 3 tips for weight management after Tet, those who do not know how to count calories can also lose weight easily and healthily:

Low calorie, high fiber, small portion meals

A three-meal combination to control specific calories includes: Starch group about half a bowl to 1 bowl of whole grains, main dish about half a palm (tofu, seafood, eggs and meat), side dish is 1 to 2 bowls (mushrooms, melons and vegetables...) processed by steaming, blanching or boiling.

It is recommended to maintain the diet for more than two weeks to achieve noticeable effects and desired results.

Drink water and tea between meals with zero calories

Healthy adults should drink boiled water to maintain a healthy body weight (half of which can be unsweetened tea). For example, a healthy adult weighing 60kg should drink 1800 - 2400ml of boiled water.

Drinking water helps circulate fluids in the body, provides a temporary feeling of fullness, and contains no calories. Drinking water regularly between meals can reduce hunger and prevent you from snacking between meals.

Work and rest properly, no late night snacking

Evening is the time when people are least active, so they burn fewer calories. If you do not exercise and add calories to your late night snacks, these excess calories will form and accumulate fat in the abdomen, buttocks, and thighs, which will lead to long-term weight gain while sleeping, becoming obese (with too much excess fat).

So, after dinner, you can take a short walk of 5 to 10 minutes to increase exercise, and it is recommended to go to bed before 12 o'clock at night to avoid late-night snacking.
