The humanitarian mission of writers
Over the years, caring for the disadvantaged, vulnerable and those at risk in life has been a consistent policy of our Party, demonstrating the humanity, humanitarianism and good nature of our regime. At the same time, it inherits and promotes the tradition of mutual love, “helping each other”, “loving others as you love yourself” of the Vietnamese people.
This policy has been institutionalized in the Constitution and laws of Vietnam over the years; and has been specified in socio -economic development strategies and plans appropriate to each stage of the country's development. Most recently, in Resolution No. 42-NQ/TW dated November 24, 2023 of the 13th Central Executive Committee "On continuing to innovate and improve the quality of social policies to meet the requirements of national construction and defense in the new period", our Party continues to affirm: Social policies are policies for people, for people. Notably, Resolution No. 42-NQ/TW marks a very important new point of expanding to all groups of social policies for all subjects; towards 2045, Vietnam will be among the countries with a high human development index (HDI) in the world.
However, realizing the above goal is not easy. According to the latest data from the authorities, the country currently has about 1.2 million poor and near-poor households according to the multidimensional poverty standard; about 9.2 million people with revolutionary contributions, of which more than 1.4 million people are receiving monthly preferential subsidies. Not to mention, the rapid aging of the population, increasingly serious climate change; natural disasters, floods, landslides occur frequently and leave serious consequences... These are all challenges, creating great pressure on social security policies.
In the above context, improving the quality of social security policies cannot rely solely on the efforts of the State, but requires the joint efforts of the whole society. The “core” role of the State in solving social problems is gradually shifting to a “leading” role, along with promoting the important role of enterprises, markets, social organizations and the will of self-reliance and self-reliance of the people. In this regard, the press is one of the important factors contributing to promoting this process.
In addition to performing well the role of informing and propagating the Party and State's policies on social security, the press is also a pioneer in calling for, organizing and accompanying activities. Through the timely dissemination of movements and appeals from Party committees, authorities, organizations and charitable individuals, the press becomes a bridge to bring charitable hearts closer to the poor and the less fortunate. The press also closely reflects the situation of natural disasters, epidemics, difficult circumstances, gratitude activities, care for people with revolutionary contributions... thereby promoting the role and social responsibility, mobilizing the cooperation of the entire community, especially the participation of businesses with large financial resources.
So, without knowing when, the press has gradually been associated with a special mission: a humanitarian mission. Over the past time, reporters and journalists have quietly contributed their efforts. Not only providing information through words, images or reports, they have also directly participated in charity activities. Press agencies have become a trusted address for kind-hearted people with the role of connecting and helping those in difficult circumstances. As a result, many meaningful programs have been widely spread, such as the movement "Leaving no one behind", "Fund for the poor", "Repaying gratitude", or campaigns to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses... contributing significantly to improving the quality of social security policies and spreading good and positive things in life.

Vietnam Law Newspaper and the journey of sending love
As one of the press agencies that is always a pioneer in carrying out humanitarian missions, in recent times, Vietnam Law Newspaper has not only successfully completed its information and propaganda tasks in the fields of politics , economics, culture and society, but also actively participated in connecting and supporting difficult circumstances in society. Under the orientation, leadership and direction of the Party Committee and the Editorial Board, the Newspaper always focuses on promoting the humanitarian role of the press, encouraging journalists, reporters and workers to become a bridge between philanthropists and the less fortunate. Many practical charity programs have been organized with the direct contribution of journalists, reporters and workers themselves.
Typically, after storm No. 3 (Yagi), when many northern localities suffered heavy damage due to floods, Dr. Vu Hoai Nam - Editor-in-Chief of Vietnam Law Newspaper promptly directed the establishment of a support working group. With the support of philanthropists, the working group brought hundreds of gifts and necessities to the people in the northern provinces. Valuably, to prepare for the meaningful trip, the team of journalists, reporters, and workers worked tirelessly for many days, personally sorting and packaging each gift with all their dedication and affection towards the people in the flood-affected areas.
Not only being present in time when our compatriots need sharing when facing natural disasters and calamities, Vietnam Law Newspaper also persistently carries out a series of annual social activities, bearing a strong humanitarian imprint. Typical activities include: "Journeys to enrich the soul" - gratitude for the Central region in July; the "Military-Civilian Tet" program with the inauguration of the Vietnam Law Bridge; giving houses of gratitude, giving Tet gifts to policy families, poor households in especially difficult circumstances; joining hands to eliminate temporary houses; visiting and showing gratitude to people with revolutionary contributions; presenting "Book libraries for children" or the series of activities "Joining hands to eliminate legal poverty" towards the border, islands...
In particular, a highlight that has become a fine tradition of the Vietnam Law Newspaper over the years is the “Judicial Shelter” donation program. This is a practical activity with profound humanity, aiming to support especially disadvantaged officials in the judicial sector, policy families, poor households across the country, etc. Hundreds of donated houses are not only a solid place to live but also a concern, encouragement, and motivation of the Newspaper, contributing to sharing difficulties, so that officials working in the judicial sector at the grassroots level can feel more secure in their profession.

Recently, continuously in April, May, June, Dr. Vu Hoai Nam and the working delegation of the Newspaper organized the handover ceremony of many "Judicial Warm House" houses to poor households with especially difficult circumstances in provinces across the country such as Ha Tinh, Thai Binh, Yen Bai... The spacious houses built from the joint efforts of philanthropists not only have material significance but also are a great source of spiritual encouragement for the three families to overcome difficult times, stabilize their residence, and daily activities...
Speaking at a ceremony in Ha Tinh, Dr. Vu Hoai Nam emphasized that the construction of “Justice Shelter” houses not only has the meaning of material support, but is also a symbol of humanity, sharing and love in society. “We believe that each house not only provides shelter but also spiritual support for people. It is a place where they feel cared for, loved, and live in the care of the whole community. “Justice Shelter” is not only a charity program, but also our commitment to continue accompanying those who are still in difficult circumstances, helping them stand up firmly and overcome adversity,” the Editor-in-Chief of Vietnam Law Newspaper expressed.
It can be seen that, through specific and practical actions, Vietnam Law Newspaper in particular and press agencies in general have contributed to spreading the spirit of humanity, as well as putting people at the center, affection, and sharing. The road ahead is still full of challenges, but with a sense of responsibility and a heart of gold, the Vietnamese press will certainly continue to make positive contributions to the cause of improving the quality of social security, for a country with sustainable development, where no one is left behind.
