Warning of flash floods, landslides, subsidence due to heavy rain in Thai Nguyen

(PLVN) - In the past 24 hours, moderate to very heavy rain has occurred in Thai Nguyen province. Given the complicated weather developments, departments, branches and localities are urgently implementing response measures to ensure the safety of people's lives and property.

According to the Thai Nguyen Provincial Hydrometeorological Station, soil moisture models show that some areas are nearly saturated (over 80%) or have reached saturation.

The hydrometeorological agency warned of the risk of flash floods, landslides, and subsidence due to heavy rain or strong currents in the area, especially in areas that have recorded natural disasters in previous years.

To proactively respond and limit damage, the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Thai Nguyen province, in coordination with relevant agencies, issued a document requesting localities and units to deploy many urgent measures.

Accordingly, the Department of Agriculture and Environment requested provincial departments, branches, sectors, and organizations, district and commune People's Committees to implement the direction of the Provincial People's Committee Chairman to focus on responding to the risk of heavy rain, landslides, flash floods and proactively prevent natural disasters, ensuring the safety of irrigation works and dykes during the rainy and flood season in 2025.

Departments, branches, sectors, organizations and localities need to closely monitor forecasts and warnings about heavy rain, floods, inundation, flash floods, landslides and provide timely and complete information to local authorities and people to proactively prevent and avoid; prepare forces and means on site for rescue and support people to overcome consequences (if any);

Deploy shock forces to prevent and control natural disasters to inspect and review residential areas along rivers, streams, low-lying areas, and areas at high risk of flooding, flash floods, and landslides to proactively clear the flow, organize the relocation and evacuation of people to safe places;

Organize forces to guard, control, support, and guide to ensure safe traffic for people and vehicles, especially at culverts, spillways, deep flooded areas, fast-flowing water, areas where landslides have occurred or are at risk of landslides.

Departments, branches, sectors, organizations and localities must resolutely not allow people and vehicles to pass through if safety is not ensured; not to let unfortunate human losses occur due to carelessness and subjectivity; arrange forces, materials and means to overcome incidents, ensuring smooth traffic on main traffic routes when heavy rain occurs;

Inspect and review key projects and unfinished projects; proactively implement measures to ensure safety for industrial parks, urban areas, residential areas, and underground mining and mineral exploitation areas.

Thai Nguyen Irrigation Exploitation Company Limited, People's Committees at district and commune levels deploy measures to ensure safety of reservoirs and downstream areas; arrange permanent forces to operate and regulate and be ready to handle possible situations.
