Mr. Luu Manh Tuong affirmed that in recent years, the Customs force, with its role in controlling and preventing smuggling and illegal transportation of drugs across the border, has achieved many outstanding results, successfully cracking down on many major cases, contributing to protecting national security and social safety.
The leaders of the Customs Department also shared that with high determination, the industry has closely coordinated with domestic and international functional forces to prevent from afar and early the harmful effects of drugs on the community.
However, criminals are increasingly sophisticated, taking advantage of technology, e-commerce, transit goods, and express delivery to hide drugs. Drugs are a super-profitable commodity, criminals use many tricks, enticing people and family members to participate in the trade, forming organized gangs, linking domestically and internationally to avoid detection by authorities.

According to statistics from the Customs Department, from December 15, 2024 to June 14, 2025, the entire industry has presided over, coordinated to detect and handle 103 cases with 110 drug-related criminals. The total seized evidence was nearly 2 tons of various drugs, of which ketamine accounted for 1,471 kg, followed by synthetic drugs with 273.5 kg.
Notably, although the number of drug arrests in the first 6 months of 2025 decreased by 80 cases compared to the same period in 2024, the total number of seized exhibits increased by 94.7%. This shows that drug criminals tend to transport large quantities instead of small quantities as before.
Deputy Director Luu Manh Tuong emphasized that the determination of the authorities would not be successful without the attention and support of the people. The Anti-Drug Action Month and the annual National Anti-Drug Day are opportunities to raise awareness, understand the dangers of drugs, and at the same time strengthen the sense of responsibility in the fight.
“Vietnam Customs calls on the people to unite with specialized forces, to act with all their heart and responsibility for the safety of society, the future of the young generation and the sustainable development of the country,” the Customs leader emphasized.
