Devote all your love to your job

Up to now, I have worked in the journalism industry for more than 15 years. Looking back on 15 years, there have been difficult times but also joy and pride. Every day that passes, I continue to move forward, continue to learn and write new stories, with all my love for journalism.

For me, journalism is not just about standing, watching, listening and typing on the keyboard. Journalism is about trips, about experiencing things with your own eyes, feeling deeply and reporting accurate information, then telling it with the heart and emotions of the person involved.

During my years in the profession, I have never been afraid of difficulties or hardships, daring to experience extremely risky activities to have the most authentic images and emotions.

I still remember, in August 2022, my colleagues and I decided to register together to participate in the zipline experience at Love Waterfall, Hoang Lien National Park (Sa Pa town) to make a multimedia article introducing Lao Cai's new tourism product, aiming to attract international tourists and adventure sports enthusiasts.

I can never forget the feeling of excitement, shivering, and heart pounding when we were hanging on the rope and sliding down from the top of the nearly 40m high waterfall. But in the end, we finished safely and had an emotional article with vivid images on this topic.

These experiences not only help me have more material to write articles, create diverse press products but also teach me how to feel life, not only with my eyes but with my heart. If a journalist only sees without feeling, only listens without understanding, then the articles will lack the breath of life.

During my years as a journalist, I have faced natural disasters many times, but never have the emotions been as intense as during the historic floods in September 2024.

During those days, when the flood was high, my colleagues and I were ordered to approach the Red River embankment area to conduct livestreams to quickly provide information and warn of danger. We conducted about 5 livestream sessions, from when the water level was 1 meter from the edge of the embankment, until the water overflowed the embankment, flooding many residential areas on both sides of the river.

When the comments poured in expressing anxiety, panic, calls for help, thanks for timely information... made me feel my responsibility more than ever.

I still remember, during the livestream session at the relief reception point in Pho Rang town, Bao Yen district, amidst the chaotic news, I received a call for help from the people of Lang Nu, they needed white cloth to mourn the deceased. I was speechless, the feeling of sorrow squeezed my heart.

In the following days, I continued to conduct a series of live reports, reporting on volunteer convoys rushing into landslide and flood areas, braving danger to bring each package of relief goods to the people.

To me, those days of storms and floods were lessons about compassion, community strength, and above all, the courage of a journalist and the value of dedication.

In my journey as a journalist, I have had many memorable encounters. But the unexpected, interesting and extremely emotional meeting between me and my colleagues with writer and journalist Ma Van Khang in Hanoi in November 2024 was truly a memorable memory, and also a lucky thing that I have had during my career.

At nearly 90 years old and having been away from Lao Cai for nearly half a century, he still remembers every little detail of the stories from nearly 70 years ago - when he first set foot in Lao Cai. Through the writer's memories, the image of Lao Cai from the old days is like a slow-motion film, gradually appearing in the listener's mind.

The recorded conversation lasted more than 3 hours and was interrupted at times by uncontrollable emotions. That made me truly admire and respect my predecessor, as well as see how small what I did was, and feel even more proud to be his junior. The things I learned, as well as the materials from the conversation with the famous writer and journalist Ma Van Khang, are extremely valuable and I believe that each person in our group cherishes them.
