Solskjaer ready to return to take over Man Utd

Báo Dân tríBáo Dân trí27/09/2024

Solskjaer has been out of management since being sacked by Man Utd in November 2021 after nearly three years in charge. He was originally hired as interim manager in December 2018 after Jose Mourinho was sacked.

Although Solskjaer led Man Utd to second place behind Man City in the Covid-19-affected 2020-21 season, the former Molde coach failed to win a trophy as the Red Devils' coach and he was forced to leave after a run of six defeats in 11 games at the end of 2021, including a 5-0 home defeat to Liverpool.

Current Man Utd manager Erik ten Hag is under increasing pressure after winning just three of his first eight games of the season, with Solskjaer saying he would not rule out staying on as manager at Old Trafford if the club decided to do so.

"If the family (Man Utd) asked, I would say yes at any time. It's wrong to talk about what other people are doing, but of course, I would say yes," Solskjaer shared in an interview at the Oslo Business Forum.

Ten Hag urged Man Utd fans to be patient at a press conference yesterday (September 26) ahead of the match against Tottenham on Sunday (September 29).

The Dutch tactician said: "We are still working and progressing, we have made the decision to sign very young players so we believe in them at this moment and also in the future.

We need time to build the squad. I'm not a very patient person, I like to go straight forward but we have been successful in two seasons."

Solskjaer has worked as a technical observer for UEFA since leaving Man Utd three years ago and the former Norway international was involved in compiling the Euro 2024 technical report after covering the tournament in Germany last summer.

He has been linked with a return to coaching with clubs in Türkiye and the Middle East, but with Norway boss Stale Solbakken expected to step down after the 2026 World Cup campaign, Solskjaer said he would be keen to take the national team job when the opportunity arises.

"I'm proud to be Norwegian, of course if there are questions, when Solbakken decides to quit, I'll be happy to join the discussion. I'm proud to be Norwegian and proud of where I come from," Solskjaer said.
