In the list of participants just announced by the Singapore Football Federation, Singapore surprised with a squad consisting mostly of players who just participated in the 2026 AFC U20 qualifiers. The oldest of the 23 players are only 3 people born in 2003, meaning they are only 22 years old this year.
The rest of the Singapore squad consists mostly of players born after 2005. Notably, the team has three 17-year-old players: Harith Danish, Luth Harith and Rae Peh.
With an average age of under 20, this can be said to be Singapore's U20 team. Unlike Vietnam or Yemen, which have many national players under the age of U23, Singapore is just a collection of young talents who have not had many opportunities to compete internationally or domestically. Most of them have just been promoted from the domestic U21 tournament.

Their record is also not impressive. In the recent U20 Asian qualifiers, Singapore lost all 3 matches and finished last, not even scoring a single goal.
By continuing to compete in the 2026 AFC U23 Championship qualifiers, it can be said that this squad of players is targeted for the 33rd SEA Games campaign in Thailand. In the immediate future, in the 2026 AFC U23 Championship qualifiers from September 3 to 9, Singapore continues to aim to hone and improve their skills instead of going far.
Singapore's chances of qualifying for the finals are slim as they are in the same group as Vietnam and Yemen. Perhaps the main opponent for Singapore to hope to earn honorable points is Bangladesh.
