Bayern Munich have agreed to loan striker Nicolas Jackson from Chelsea for the season, with the Senegalese star arriving in Germany on Saturday afternoon, smiling brightly at Munich airport.
While Jackson waited to complete the formalities necessary to join Bayern, Chelsea hosted Fulham. Expensive new signing Liam Delap started but was substituted after just 14 minutes due to injury. Winger Tyrique George came on as a substitute and played as a centre-forward. The Blues had a difficult time but eventually came through thanks to goals from Joao Pedro and captain Enzo Fernandez.
After the match, coach Enzo Maresca said Delap had suffered a hamstring injury while moving at high speed and could be out for six to eight weeks. This was a shock for Chelsea as well as the £30 million contract. They now have only one striker left, Joao Pedro, if not for the makeshift solution Tyrique George.
As a result, Chelsea have informed Bayern that their season-long loan deal with an option to buy worth £69m will be cancelled, forcing the Senegalese forward to return to London to fill Delap's shoes.
Jackson scored 13 goals for Chelsea last season, four fewer than the campaign before, and lost his place after the Blues added Delap and Joao Pedro. Elsewhere, Alejandro Garnacho was also at Stamford Bridge on Saturday after United agreed to let him leave for £40m.
