Chelsea is no longer the number 1 candidate for the championship, according to Opta's supercomputer - Photo: REUTERS
Before the semi-finals, Opta's supercomputer predicted that Chelsea had an 81.30% chance of reaching the final, the highest of the four teams. On the other hand, the English representative's opponent, Fluminense, had only an 18.70% chance of advancing.
Meanwhile, the supercomputer predicts that PSG has a 57.85% chance of reaching the final. This means that the Spanish Royal team only has a 42.15% chance of passing the semi-finals.
The supercomputer also predicted the championship chances of four teams. Of these, Fluminense only has a 2.52% chance of winning the championship, the lowest among the teams in the semi-finals.
Real Madrid are third with 24.63%, while Chelsea are second with 34.08%. Defending champions PSG are the most likely team to win the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup with 38.88%.
This is quite a surprising change because before the quarter-finals, the supercomputer predicted that Chelsea was the team with the highest chance of winning the championship. But before the semi-finals, the English football representative fell to second place, behind PSG.
In fact, Chelsea's path at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup is quite easy. On the way to the semi-finals, they have not faced a very strong opponent. Similarly, in the semi-finals, Chelsea only had to face a team that was considered weaker, Fluminense.
Meanwhile, PSG had a tough journey at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup. Right from the group stage, PSG faced a big challenge from Atletico Madrid. Then they had to face Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals. PSG's opponent in the semi-finals was another big European team, Real Madrid.
However, that difficult journey does not reduce PSG's chances of winning the championship. This is quite surprising, showing that the French team is highly appreciated.
