Speaking at the seminar on "Developing e-commerce - Opportunities, motivations and challenges", organized by the Government Electronic Information Portal on August 14, Ms. Lai Viet Anh - Deputy Director of the Department of E-commerce and Digital Economy ( Ministry of Industry and Trade ) - said that the Ministry of Industry and Trade is consulting to submit to the Government a master plan for e-commerce development in the next 5 years.

According to Ms. Viet Anh, Vietnam's cross-border e-commerce exports in 2022 will reach about 3.3 billion USD and are expected to reach more than 11 billion USD by 2027 if there are support mechanisms from both the e-commerce platform and the State.

Therefore, the Ministry of Industry and Trade will develop solutions to promote cross-border e-commerce with "made in Vietnam" products and exports in general, associated with sustainable development trends because green and sustainable consumption is a prominent trend worldwide .

According to Ms. Viet Anh, the technology applications Digital and digital transformation in e-commerce will also play a certain role. For example, customers have requirements for traceability of goods, ensuring the growing area, not violating deforestation or ensuring requirements. environmental protection, anti-waste…

"All of these problems can be solved by digitizing the value chain production process, applying it to each stage of the production process... These are the factors that e-commerce must apply to improve the competitiveness of Vietnamese goods in the international market," Ms. Viet Anh emphasized.

Meanwhile, according to Dr. Vo Tri Thanh, an economic expert, the export of goods in general and e-commerce in Vietnam are still dominated by foreign brands and distribution channels. Therefore, the problem is how Vietnamese businesses can rise up, build Vietnamese brands, and have platforms to connect with Amazon and larger, more international platforms.

For example, Vietnam currently has 5,000 - 6,000 OCOP products, but the number of products that can be exported is very small. Therefore, a lot needs to be improved to ensure quality, traceability, and meet the trend of green - safe - humane consumption. "These are big challenges for Vietnamese goods when exporting across borders via e-commerce channels," said Mr. Thanh.

Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Minh Tuan, Director of the Department of Digital Economy and Digital Society (Ministry of Information and Communications), said that cross-border e-commerce has great development opportunities, especially since Vietnam is close to a very large market, China, with more than 1 billion people, and a lot of potential and opportunities to export agricultural products to China.

In fact, technology business Some Vietnamese companies have also built B2B e-commerce platforms, connecting with the world's major e-commerce platforms such as Amazon, Alibaba, Timo... so that when goods are listed on the floor, they will also appear on the world's major e-commerce platforms, connecting buyers directly with sellers as well as manufacturers.

Therefore, according to Mr. Tuan, in the upcoming e-commerce development plan of the Government, cross-border e-commerce will be considered a great opportunity for us to export goods across borders.
