After layoffs, Bungie confirms delay of Destiny 2 expansion

According to Engadget , Bungie has officially delayed Destiny 2 's upcoming expansion The Final Shape to June 4, 2024, the information was confirmed through a video posted by game director Joel Blackburn.

The delay has been rumored for months, since the company laid off a large number of employees working on the project. The expansion was originally supposed to launch in February 2024 and would have served as the end of the game's main storyline.

However, Bungie said the expansion's delay was simply because the new game needed more development time to achieve exactly what the company wanted, noting that the team was working on the expansion to deliver a bigger, bolder vision. To that end, the company is adjusting its release schedule a bit to ease the burden on the development team.

Destiny 2's The Final Shape expansion is scheduled to launch in June 2024

To make up for the delay, Bungie will be shifting the Season of the Wish to an episodic model with more content than before. Starting next February, the game will feature weekly quests called Wishes that will offer unique rewards. Bungie will also be moving the Guardian Games summer event to March. Finally, in April, players will get a two-month content update called Destiny 2: Into the Light , which will serve as a bridge to The Final Shape expansion.

Destiny 2 's upcoming expansion isn't the only game delayed amid layoffs. Bungie has also pushed back the release date of its shooter Marathon until 2025, the first reboot of the IP since it first appeared on Macs in 1994.

As for The Final Shape, the expansion will offer new dungeons, new maps, new character classes, and more.
