On July 11, O Quy Ho Eco-tourism Area, Binh Lu Commune, Lai Chau Province, suffered a major landslide that destroyed several bungalows, internal roads and many other properties.
According to the report of the People's Committee of Binh Lu commune, prolonged heavy rain caused landslides at O Quy Ho Eco-tourism Area on July 3.
Looking from Highway 4D, a long landslide from above extends down to the stream, destroying a large area of forest. Above, two resort bungalows were damaged. Fortunately, there were no guests staying in the landslide area.
The foundation of the bungalow area and the circulating water tank have collapsed, the landslide extends down to the foot of the stream about 650m, the width of the landslide is about 15-20m.
All the soil, rocks, and trees along the landslide path have flowed down the stream, creating a temporary gully; on the foundation of the circulating water tank and 2 bungalows (newly built but not yet in operation), there is a phenomenon of open palates, with the risk of further landslides when it rains heavily.
Mr. Luong Viet Thao, Chairman of the People's Committee of Binh Lu commune, said that when the incident occurred, the commune inspected and promptly reported the incident to the People's Committee of Lai Chau province.
The People's Committee of Binh Lu Commune has requested Pusamcap Lai Chau Joint Stock Company (the Management Unit of O Quy Ho Tourist Area) to carry out the following contents: At landslide locations (water tank foundations, foundations of newly built bungalows that have not been put into operation), the company is required to make technical calculations, have an urgent plan to reinforce and handle firmly to ensure that there are no more cleft palates.
Install warning signs and reflective tapes over a large area around landslide areas and areas at risk of landslides to ensure that company officers and employees are clearly aware and able to prevent accidents.
Check and review all other locations at risk and potential risk to proactively have plans to prevent landslides when heavy rain occurs.
Strengthen monitoring of weather conditions and developments when there is prolonged heavy rain, promptly notify local authorities and relevant agencies when situations and incidents occur to ensure maximum damage is minimized.
O Quy Ho tourist area is managed by Pusamcap Lai Chau Joint Stock Company. VNA reporters went to the site to contact the management to work and approach the scene but were refused. The management of the tourist area directed security to not allow reporters to go to the landslide area and to avoid working./.
