Over 20 years of experience in wine making

The Muong Khoi wine production facility was established by Mr. Bui Van Hao in 2002, initially as a small family-based model, producing to serve the commune and district. Born into a family with a long-standing wine-making profession, Mr. Hao always kept in mind "not to let the traditional profession of the Muong people fade away, must revive it with all his heart and kindness".

For over 20 years, Mr. Hao has been constantly researching and improving the wine making formula. Muong Khoi rice wine is made entirely by hand from upland sticky rice and herbal yeast with many types such as cinnamon bark, guava leaves, medicinal plant roots, etc. The fermentation and fermentation process lasts for weeks, the wine is bottled in ceramic jars, carefully preserved before being put on the market. In 2022, with the attention and support of the An Nghia commune and Lac Son district authorities, Mr. Hao officially established a Muong Khoi rice wine production facility, registered the trademark and participated in the One Commune One Product (OCOP) Program. The product was recognized as a 3-star OCOP, creating a major turning point for the hometown's rice wine brand.

Currently, Mr. Hao's facility produces over 1,000 jars of wine per month, and during peak holidays and Tet, it can increase by one and a half times. The wine is consumed in Hoa Binh and ordered online, distributed to many provinces and cities such as Hanoi, Ninh Binh, Hai Phong, Bac Giang ... With an average selling price of 100,000 - 150,000 VND/jar (depending on the type), the facility achieves a revenue of over 100 million VND/month, being one of the models of handicraft production with high economic efficiency in the locality. The facility regularly maintains 6 - 7 local workers, mainly women and middle-aged people, with a stable income of 6 - 8 million VND/person/month. In addition, Mr. Hao also provides technical guidance to some households in the hamlet who want to learn the trade, gradually expanding the traditional wine-making profession.

Contribute to "preserving the soul" of Muong village

What makes Muong Khoi wine special is the traditional production method combined with modern hygiene and safety standards. Each jar of wine is not only a commercial product, but also a "cultural ambassador" of the Muong people. The mild flavor, sweet aftertaste, fragrant smell of rice and wild yeast, that is what users remember when enjoying it.

Sharing his wishes for the future, Mr. Bui Van Hao said: "I not only want to sell wine, but also want to introduce the Muong culture through the product. Can wine is an indispensable traditional drink in festivals, weddings, housewarming, new rice celebration... In the near future, I hope to support the construction of a wine making experience area, welcoming tourists to visit, learn and enjoy. Preserving the profession while developing community tourism, that is a sustainable direction".

Mr. Hao is currently actively registering trademark copyrights and completing criteria to re-evaluate OCOP products to meet higher standards. He also proposed support for arranging promotional spaces and display booths at tourist attractions in the district to connect directly with tourists. According to the assessment of the commune government, the Muong Khoi wine production facility is an effective production and business model, actively contributing to preserving the traditional culture of the Muong people.

Comrade Bui Van Nguyen, Chairman of the People's Committee of An Nghia Commune, shared: "We really appreciate models like the Muong Khoi wine facility, which helps generate income for the people and at the same time affirms the Muong cultural identity. The commune continues to support Mr. Hao in expanding the scale, improving designs, and connecting with community tourism to create a value chain."

In the context of promoting the construction of advanced and exemplary new rural areas, production models associated with local identity and resources such as Muong Khoi wine are expected to spread, contributing to economic development and enriching cultural identity.
