Good news for fans and investors of electric car company Tesla. Elon Musk said on Tuesday that the company plans to start offering its self-driving taxi service - Cybercrab - to the public on June 22.
Musk has bet Tesla's future on self-driving cars, shifting plans to build a cheaper electric vehicle platform, and much of the company's value depends on that vision.

But the commercialization of autonomous vehicles (AVs) is facing challenges due to safety concerns, tight regulations and high investment, and many are skeptical of Musk's plans.
“We are very concerned about safety, so this date may change,” Musk said in an X post responding to a user question about the public robotaxi service the electric carmaker plans to offer first in Austin, Texas.
Musk also said that starting June 28, Tesla cars will drive themselves to customers' homes from the end of the production line.
A successful robotaxi launch is important for Tesla as its electric vehicle sales have declined due to increased competition and a backlash against Musk's far-right political views in Europe.
Musk's recent stint at the White House has come to an end, along with tensions with President Donald Trump, which have also raised new concerns.
However, as he said before, Musk has been focusing all his efforts on his companies when not spending time on DOGE.

Musk has promised to roll out a paid robotaxi service in Austin, starting with about 10-20 Model Y SUVs, operating in a limited area and under remote human supervision.
The company then plans to expand operations to other US states later this year, including California, which has strict AV regulations.
Tesla has been testing its self-driving cars on public roads in Austin, Musk said last month. Earlier on Tuesday, Musk retweeted a video on X showing a Model Y turning an intersection in Austin without a human driver and the word “Robotaxi” written on it, followed closely by another Model Y.
Musk said in a separate post on X that the vehicles are using a new version of Tesla's advanced driver assistance software, called Full Self-Driving (FSD).
