• Happy season of harvesting watermelon for Tet
  • Farmers have a good winter-spring rice crop.

Mr. Tran Van Dung, Vinh Thanh commune , said that his family has nearly 2 hectares of land growing pennywort and is in the harvest stage. In recent days, pennywort prices have increased, making his family very happy because they will earn quite a high profit. "Especially at a time when vegetables are producing more than 1 ton/hectare, with a price of about 16-17 thousand VND/kg, my family will earn a profit of over 17 million VND," Mr. Dung said excitedly.

Gotu kola is harvested almost all year round, after about 1 month of cutting, the next crop is harvested. Growing gotu kola does not require too much investment, just need to plant the seeds once, then fertilize, weed, water twice a day to give the plant enough moisture to grow. When the plant is about 10-12 cm tall, it can be harvested. However, according to Mr. Dung, growing gotu kola also requires the grower to take good care, apply good growing techniques, to achieve productivity and make a good profit. Because the roots of the vegetable are not thick, if the yield is small, even if the price is high, there is still no profit.

Along with rice, vegetable cultivation is one of the strengths of Vinh Thanh commune. With an area of nearly 100 hectares of vegetable cultivation, mainly growing pennywort and water celery, on average, farmers here supply about 30 tons of vegetables to wholesale markets in and outside the province every day, bringing in a year-round income. With each hectare of land growing pennywort, farmers can earn about 100 million VND/year.

Mr. Huynh Trung Thu, Vinh Thanh commune, shared: “Not only do farmers produce vegetables to make a profit, but agricultural services in the commune have also developed quite strongly. Especially the jobs of harvesting, classifying, and processing water celery and pennywort, helping many households have jobs and a stable income of 200-300 thousand VND/session.”

The renovation of mixed gardens to develop vegetables with economic value is a correct policy, suitable for the actual conditions of Vinh Thanh commune. This method has brought about quite high economic efficiency for farmers. Currently, the commune is expanding vegetable production areas, especially pennywort, in a safe direction, ensuring the health of consumers. Farmers in the commune have also been transferred safe vegetable production processes by the agricultural sector.

With more and more areas of pennywort being produced in a safe way such as: using organic fertilizers, biological products, limiting chemicals..., Vinh Thanh commune is aiming to maintain and develop a large consumer market, aiming for sustainable production.
