This afternoon (October 21), at the 8th Session, the 15th National Assembly completed the process of electing the position of President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam for the 2021-2026 term.
As a result, General Luong Cuong - Politburo member, Standing member of the Secretariat, and 15th National Assembly delegate was elected by the National Assembly to hold the position of President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam for the 2021-2026 term.
The resolution on electing Mr. Luong Cuong to hold the position was also passed by the National Assembly delegates with 440/440 delegates participating in the vote in favor (accounting for 91.67% of the total number of National Assembly delegates).
The new President took an oath of allegiance to the Fatherland, the People and the Constitution before the National Assembly upon taking office.
"Under the sacred red flag with yellow star of the Fatherland, before the National Assembly and the people and voters of the whole country, I, Luong Cuong - President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, swear: To be absolutely loyal to the Fatherland, to the People, to the Constitution of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, to strive to fulfill well the tasks assigned by the Party, State and People", President Luong Cuong took the oath.
After the oath-taking ceremony, President Luong Cuong delivered a speech before the National Assembly.
General Luong Cuong was born in 1957, hometown: Duu Lau ward, Viet Tri city, Phu Tho province. He is a member of the Politburo, Standing member of the 13th Party Central Committee Secretariat; Secretary of the 12th Party Central Committee; Member of the 11th, 12th, 13th Party Central Committee; Delegate of the 15th National Assembly.
He has a long history of service in the military, having held the following positions: Deputy Commander of Politics, Army Corps 2; Secretary of the Party Committee of Army Corps 2; Political Commissar of Army Corps 2; Secretary of the Party Committee of Army Corps 2; Political Commissar of Military Region 3; Member of the Central Military Commission, Secretary of the Party Committee of Military Region 3.
From 2011 to April 2016, he held the position of Deputy Director of the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People's Army. Afterwards, until May 2024, he assumed the position of Director of the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People's Army.
The Politburo decided to assign General Luong Cuong, Politburo member and Director of the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People's Army, to join the Secretariat and hold the position of Standing Secretary of the Secretariat from May 2024 to present.
