Quang Nam province is exploiting mountainous areas with unique indigenous cultural strengths, many scenic spots, rich cuisine... These resources create the foundation for unique tourism products, attracting tourists such as community tourism, ecology, culture, history...
Thanks to policies and guidelines on infrastructure investment, promotion, and development of mountain tourism products, Quang Nam has developed many new destinations, diversified tourism products, and contributed to improving the lives of people in mountainous areas.
Nam Tra My and Tay Giang districts, located at the foot of Ngoc Linh mountain, possess abundant natural and human resources. This is also the strength for the two mountainous districts of Quang Nam to develop various types of tourism, attracting visitors.
Awaken your potential
Nam Tra My has a tropical monsoon climate, suitable for the development of diverse plants and rare creatures. This place has high mountainous terrain, valleys divided by rivers, streams, rapids, creating wild and unique natural landscapes such as 5-storey Waterfall, Double Stream, Rain Stream, Hot Spring, poetic Tranh River...
The district also owns a diverse and rich primary forest system in terms of flora and fauna, including: Nuoc La Reserve, Ngoc Linh Nature Reserve, and Ngoc Linh forest ecosystem.
For a long time, Nam Tra My land has been home to many ethnic groups. The solidarity of the community in struggles, activities, festivals, and beliefs has created unique and distinctive cultural values that bear the mark of the land and people of Ngoc Linh ginseng.
Activities such as the Ginseng Festival, Ginseng Market, New Rice Festival, Water Trough Worship, Mountain God Worship, Gong Festival, etc. have created a multi-ethnic cultural land. This is a great potential for tourism development, attracting tourists to research and visit.
Nam Tra My is not only rich in tourism potential but also famous for Ngoc Linh ginseng, a plant considered a national treasure, a resource of great economic , medical and cultural value.
Recently, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced the decision to include "Folk knowledge about Ngoc Linh ginseng" (Nam Tra My district, Quang Nam province) in the list of National Intangible Cultural Heritage, affirming the position and brand of Ngoc Linh ginseng of Nam Tra My district not only in the market, but also in the depth of national culture.
Vice Chairman of Nam Tra My District People's Committee Nguyen The Phuoc shared: Determining tourism development as an important driving force to implement the National Target Program on new rural construction, socio-economic development of ethnic minority areas, contributing to sustainable poverty reduction, in recent years, the district has issued many policies and measures to exploit and promote eco-tourism, community tourism, and ginseng tourism. The district has gradually formed tourist destinations associated with historical, cultural and ecological relics.
“The District People's Committee has directed relevant departments to research, develop and recreate the rituals and ceremonies of ethnic minorities into tourism products; organize many activities to preserve and promote the local cultural identity associated with cultural activities, entertainment, introducing products, souvenirs, cuisine, and local specialties to promote, attract and serve tourists,” said Mr. Phuoc.
Tay Giang highland district is currently one of the attractive destinations for tourists on the Quang Nam mountainous tourism map. With heritage forests of Po Mu, Do Rhododendron, Lim forest and unique indigenous culture of the Co Tu people, it creates an attraction, attracting tourists to Tay Giang. In 2024, Tay Giang was recognized as a Vietnam Heritage Tree for 959 green Lim trees in Lang commune and 11 Da trees in Ga Ry commune. Traditional festivals such as the Thanksgiving Forest Festival held annually; the New Rice Festival of the Co Tu ethnic group in the highlands... contribute to conservation and exploitation, building into attractive tourism products. Forest resources and indigenous culture are proudly considered by the Co Tu people in Tay Giang highland district as "treasures in the great forest".
While in many places, young people are reluctant to wear traditional costumes, in Lang commune, Tay Giang district, wearing the traditional costumes of the Co Tu people is a joy and happiness for the young men in the village. When the village has a festival or tourists come, Mr. Clau Nghe wears a bark shirt (ancient costume) to perform gongs.
Mr. Clau Nghe shared that for the Co Tu people, bark costumes not only cover the body but also contain cultural values, reflecting the process of ethnic development, the spirit of solidarity, love between people, between people and mountains, forests, nature and trees. Whenever there is a festival or when there are tourists, we often wear bark costumes to show the traditional beauty of our people.
Develop strengths
In recent years, Quang Nam has supported mountainous localities to arrange residents and build cultural villages to develop community tourism. This is a living cultural space that attracts tourists to experience and explore cultural beauty.
Up to now, the province has successfully developed community tourism models in Nam Tra My, Dong Giang and Tay Giang districts. Many tourism products have been invested and welcomed by tourists such as: Bho Hoong tourist village, Dhroong tourist village (Dong Giang); Ta Lang community cultural village, Po'ning village, Po Mu heritage forest (Tay Giang); Ngoc Linh ginseng area, Mo Chai community tourism village (Nam Tra My)...
These destinations contribute to diversifying mountain tourism products, bringing new experiences to visitors and creating jobs and improving livelihoods for a large number of local workers.
In order to promote the potential and advantages of developing mountainous tourism, Quang Nam has issued a Resolution on Regulations on a number of policies to support the development of mountainous tourism in Quang Nam province until 2025; Plan on developing green tourism in Quang Nam until 2025. Notably, the People's Committee of Quang Nam province issued Decision No. 800/QD-UBND dated April 19, 2023 on the implementation plan of Project 6 "Preserving and promoting the fine traditional cultural values of ethnic minorities associated with tourism development" for the period 2022-2025.
In accordance with the spirit of Resolution No. 13-NQ/TU dated July 20, 2021 of the Quang Nam Provincial Party Committee on developing trade and tourism in Quang Nam province to 2025, with a vision to 2030, the orientation for developing tourism in the western mountainous region is to focus on preserving and promoting the cultural values of ethnic minorities in combination with historical and cultural relics, the values of traditional craft villages, nature reserves, hydroelectric reservoirs and protective forests to develop community tourism, rural tourism, eco-tourism, adventure sports, exploration and relaxation. The goal is to reduce the burden on heritage areas, diversify tourism products and balance tourism development among regions in the province.
Decision No. 72/QD-TTg dated January 17, 2024 of the Prime Minister approving the Planning of Quang Nam province for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, has oriented the development of tourism space in four main spaces. In particular, determining the space for developing eco-tourism combined with learning about the cultural identity of ethnic groups in the western mountainous districts of the province; focusing on preserving natural landscapes, biodiversity, developing community tourism, and local cuisine.
Mr. Nguyen Thanh Hong, Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Quang Nam province, shared that in recent times, the provincial authorities and mountainous districts have paid attention to maximizing advantages to develop tourism. The province has issued many policies and guidelines on infrastructure investment, promotion, and development of mountainous tourism products and green tourism. Thanks to that, many tourism products have been invested in and welcomed, contributing to diversifying tourism products and creating new experiences for tourists.
The orientation of expanding tourism space in mountainous localities of Quang Nam province is a step in the right direction to achieve the dual goal of both developing tourism and preserving and promoting the value of cultural heritage; at the same time, improving the lives and enhancing the spiritual values of people in the highlands.
