Neurosurgery in the 4.0 era - Bringing Robots and Artificial Intelligence into the Operating Room

(PLVN) - On June 20 and 21, the Vietnam Neurosurgery Association in collaboration with Hue Central Hospital organized the 2025 National Conference on Young Neurosurgery and the 2025 National Conference on Neurological Nursing, with the participation of more than 400 delegates and domestic and international experts.

With the theme “Advanced technical approach in neurosurgery for young surgeons” and “Postoperative care for patients with spinal and cranial injuries”, the event is an important scientific forum to update, share experiences and transfer modern technology in the field of neurosurgery and intensive nursing.

Nearly 100 reports were presented during the two-day conference. In addition to the issue of experience, skills in handling and caring for neurological diseases also require access to advanced technology in this specialized field: microsurgery techniques, robotic applications, neuronavigation, digital microscopes, 3D simulation and artificial intelligence (AI)... in the treatment of neurological diseases were of interest and were discussed enthusiastically - with special emphasis on transferring knowledge and skills to the younger generation of surgeons.

Delegates listen attentively to issues related to bringing Robots and AI into the operating room.

The program featured many international experts from Japan, Singapore and Indonesia. Prof. Dr. Takizawa Katsumi (Japan) introduced the bypass technique to treat Moyamoya disease - one of the top topics of interest. In addition, leading experts from major hospitals in the country such as Viet Duc, 108, Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Saint Paul, Hue Central Hospital ... also shared many practical and updated topics in their specialized fields.

Within the framework of the continuing education program and nursing session, presentations on post-brain surgery patient care, spinal cord injury, post-operative resuscitation care, etc. were highly appreciated. Practical studies from nurses in Hanoi , Hue, and Da Nang were also presented, contributing important perspectives from the frontline nursing workforce.

The conference not only helps young surgeons access advanced techniques but also emphasizes the importance of comprehensive care – from surgery to recovery – in the treatment of neurological diseases, to improve the quality of life for patients.

As a co-organizer, Hue Central Hospital continues to affirm its position as one of the leading neurosurgery centers in the Central Highlands and the whole country. Organizing the conference in Hue demonstrates the hospital's professional capacity, modern facilities and reputation in training and transferring advanced techniques.

On this occasion, Dr. Tanaka Yoshihide (Director of the Center for Brain and Neurology, Yokosuka Kyosai Hospital - Japan) was awarded the "For People's Health" medal.

The conference ended with many commitments to cooperate, share professional data, promote training of young surgeons, contributing to improving the quality of treatment and care for neurological patients in Vietnam during the digital technology and precision medicine transition period.
