The team from Ho Chi Minh City University of Technical Education participated in the final round of the drone design competition, held at the Technical University of Ostrava (Czech Republic).

The team of Ho Chi Minh City University of Technical Education consists of 6 members: Pham Quoc Khanh, Tran Minh Quang, Do Phuong Nam, Nguyen Thanh Nhut, Doan Ngoc Minh Huy, Tran Dac Tan - currently studying at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. In which, Quoc Khanh and Minh Quang represented the team to participate in the competition held in the Czech Republic, with the guidance of Dr. Ha Le Nhu Ngoc Thanh - lecturer of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering.

Dr. Thanh said that the competition time was quite urgent, so the members had to work continuously, including holidays and weekends. When deciding to compete internationally, the team's goal was to bring home a prize.

"It was that determination that motivated the entire team to focus on researching and continuously testing many design and control options to optimize the UAV," Dr. Thanh recalled.

One of the biggest challenges the team encountered was the complete loss of UAV control signals during field testing and official competition.

UAV designed by Ho Chi Minh City University of Technical Education "fights" in the international arena

Dr. Thanh said: “This is the first time in nearly 10 years of UAV research that I have encountered a situation where the Remote and Telemetry signals were completely lost, which was extremely dangerous. Fortunately, the team had anticipated the situation of signal loss during training in Vietnam, so the UAV maintained its position and automatically landed safely. After a sleepless night to fix it, on the official competition day the next day, the UAV flew extremely stably, dropping most of the targets accurately.”

Holding the victory trophy in his hand, Quoc Khanh smiled brightly and proudly: "This is not only an individual or team achievement, but also a testament to the school's spirit of solidarity, perseverance and passion for UAV research."

For the first time "fighting" in the international arena, the young people said they had experienced and understood more about programming to help UAVs operate stably, combining artificial intelligence (AI) to help the aircraft identify targets, how to counteract interference signals...

In addition to Ho Chi Minh City University of Technical Education, the international final round also has other teams from Vietnam, including: Vietnam Aviation Academy and Ton Duc Thang University.
