On February 29, information from the Dak Nong Provincial Department of Health said that a cluster of diarrhea cases caused by Rota virus infection had just appeared in the province.

Previously, Tuy Duc District Medical Center received information about a case of Rota virus infection in Dak Ngo commune (Tuy Duc district), being treated at Dak R'lap District Medical Center (both in Dak Nong province).

The patient is a 2-year-old boy (living in Dak Ngo commune), hospitalized with a diagnosis of gastroenteritis and colitis due to bacterial infection and fever of unknown origin with symptoms of nausea, irritable bowel syndrome with diarrhea, and water and electrolyte imbalance. The patient was tested and confirmed positive for Rotavirus.

Faced with the above information, Tuy Duc District Medical Center quickly organized an investigation and monitoring of cases showing symptoms of the disease at the patient's residence, in order to promptly assess the epidemic situation and isolate the area to take measures to handle it.

Initial investigation results recorded the first cluster of cases including 3 cases living in the same family; all had symptoms of abdominal pain, vomiting, and diarrhea. These patients all tested positive for Rotavirus.

In addition, authorities recorded 2 cases of mild diarrhea in the above area at the same time.

The medical force determined that this was a cluster of cases related to the Rota virus and the source of the disease could be the use of unsanitary water sources, which then spread in the community. The authorities have treated the environment, disinfected it with chemicals and used lime powder to sprinkle around water wells and toilets, in order to help limit the spread of the disease.
