Quickly busted a case of transporting more than 18,000 packs of smuggled foreign cigarettes

On May 18, information from Vinh Long Provincial Police said that professional units had just quickly broken up a case of transporting more than 18,000 packs of smuggled foreign cigarettes from Binh Hiep border gate ( Long An province) to Vinh Long province for consumption.

According to the police, at 9:00 p.m. on May 16, the Economic Police Department, Vinh Long Provincial Police, in coordination with Vinh Long City Police, caught red-handed driver Tran Viet Thai (born in 1993, residing in Hiep Duc Commune, Cai Lay District, Tien Giang Province) driving a car with license plate 63A-140.61 while delivering goods to Nham Hong Loan (born in 1973) and Duong Hoang Minh Tam (born in 1996, both residing in Tan Ngai Ward, Vinh Long City).

Upon inspection, the authorities discovered 17,350 packs of smuggled foreign cigarettes hidden in the vehicle. Continuing to inspect Loan’s house, the authorities discovered and temporarily seized another 950 packs of smuggled foreign cigarettes of various types.

During the investigation, Thai admitted that he transported the smuggled cigarettes from Binh Hiep border gate (Long An province) to Vinh Long province to deliver to Loan.

Currently, the case is being further investigated by the police to handle the subjects according to the provisions of the law.
