On November 14 (local time), US President-elect Donald Trump gave his first public speech since winning the 2024 election.
"We're going to solve the Middle East and we're going to work very hard on Russia and Ukraine. It all has to stop. Russia and Ukraine have to stop," Trump said at a dinner hosted by the America First Policy Institute (AFPI) at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida.
He also criticized Washington's "massive spending" on Afghanistan, where US troops withdrew in 2021 after two decades of fighting against the Taliban, who returned to power that year.

The 47th US President-elect also pledged to build a "great military". He said: "We have to make our country great again with low taxes and a strong military. We will improve our military, we have done it before and now we will have to do it again."
The fact that Donald Trump, who campaigned on an “America First” platform, is set to return to the White House on January 20, 2025, raises questions about Washington’s billions of dollars in support for Kiev, which is vital to the country’s defense.
Mr Trump has repeatedly opposed US military aid to Ukraine. He once declared that he would end the Russia-Ukraine conflict “in 24 hours”, but did not specify when that plan would be implemented.
President-elect Trump has nominated Fox News host and military veteran Pete Hegseth as US Secretary of Defense.
If confirmed by the Senate, Mr. Hegseth would command about 3.4 million troops and civilians, overseeing an annual budget of about $850 billion.
Mr. Trump also tasked Elon Musk, the world's richest man, with proposing $2 trillion in cuts from the federal government's $7 trillion budget.
