Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump held his first outdoor campaign rally in Asheboro, North Carolina, on August 21, after his assassination attempt in July. Trump delivered his speech behind bulletproof glass, while snipers were stationed on nearby rooftops to ensure his safety. The Secret Service has begun to increase security measures for Trump after his assassination attempt last month during a campaign rally in Pennsylvania. They began installing bulletproof glass around his podium when he campaigned outdoors. Bulletproof glass is often used to protect sitting presidents. Other additional measures include increasing the number of Secret Service agents and certain technological changes. During his speech in North Carolina, Trump continued to attack Democratic candidate Kamala Harris, calling her a far-left figure. He also criticized NATO countries for not fully fulfilling their commitment to spend 2% of GDP on security and defense in recent years. He once again said that if he were president, the Russia-Ukraine war would not have broken out. The former president affirmed that if he were re-elected, America would be more prosperous.
