Incumbent Russian President Vladimir Putin is unlikely to face any major challenge in his bid for a fifth term and will likely seek the biggest mandate possible, analysts say.

On December 8, Russian state news agencies reported that at an event in the Kremlin, President Vladimir Putin agreed to run for re-election in the upcoming presidential election.
Earlier the same day, the Russian Central Election Commission (CEC) also announced that next year's presidential election will be held over three days, from March 15-17, 2024.
Reuters also assessed that Mr. Putin will certainly win next year's election because of his high approval rating and almost no dissent. On October 7, the Russian President turned 71.
TASS news agency said that if re-elected as Russian president next year, Mr. Putin will stay in power until at least 2030.
Russia's five major parties have been allowed to nominate candidates for the 2024 election without collecting signatures, all of whom support the Kremlin and the military conflict in Ukraine.
According to Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, President Putin has always relied on the support of the people in his work. His main concern is improving the welfare and living standards of the people. "Russians of different ages from all over the country have contacted the authorities to express their support for Putin ahead of the annual question-and-answer session on December 14, when the president will answer many questions from the public," Peskov added.
On December 7, at a plenary session of the Federation Council (Senate) of Russia, a resolution was passed to set the presidential election for March 17, 2024. The resolution was unanimously approved by 162 deputies and took effect immediately upon its publication.
The chairman of the Federation Council Committee on constitutional law and state building, Andrey Klipas, said that the resolution entering into force will launch the election campaign.
According to the Election Law, the decision on the election date is adopted by the Federal Council no earlier than 100 days and no later than 90 days before the election.
