Video : Panorama of thousands of houses in Ham Rong ward deeply flooded.
At noon on August 27, records along 7 neighborhoods (from neighborhoods 4 to 10) of the old Thieu Duong ward, now Ham Rong ward, showed that thousands of houses were flooded, with some households being submerged 2 to 4 meters deep.
According to the leader of Ham Rong ward, from the afternoon of August 26, when the Ma River water level began to rise rapidly, more than 2,000 houses were flooded. The government issued an evacuation notice, mobilized dozens of boats, and hundreds of officers and soldiers on duty all night to assist people in evacuating.
Muddy water rose over the eaves and flowed rapidly through every small alley.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Thao said that the water rose quickly, in some places it was 3-4 meters deep, the entire first floor of the house was submerged in water, many families had to leave their belongings behind and only had time to bring a little food and documents to evacuate.
Many people had to climb to the second floor or roof to avoid flood water.
Boats of the authorities carried the elderly and children to safety.
People's eyes lit up with hope when they saw the timely presence of rescue forces.
Locals said that floods happen almost every year, but this year the water rose faster and deeper. They hope the rain will stop soon and the water will recede soon so they can return to clean up and stabilize their lives.
The elderly, children, and women were evacuated to high ground. On the dike, militia, police, and soldiers were on duty continuously, ready to respond in case of an incident.
As the flood waters show no signs of receding, people in Ham Rong ward continue to struggle with difficulties in commuting and lack of clean water and food.
A representative of Ham Rong ward said: “We prioritize the evacuation of households with elderly people, children, and pregnant women. At the same time, the locality coordinates with functional units to prepare enough food, drinking water, and medicine to support isolated families in flooded areas.”
