Many people in Yen Bai ward (Lao Cai province) had to flee the flood at night.

According to records, the water level of the Red River in Yen Bai ward has exceeded alert level 3, causing severe flooding in low-lying streets along the river such as Thanh Nien, Yet Kieu and Hoang Hoa Tham. Since midnight last night, water has flooded the streets and entered people's houses. Some places in Lao Cai province such as Co Phuc, Bac Ha... also had heavy rain, people could not sleep, worried about flooding crops, damaged fruit trees...

Local authorities urgently issued a document to evacuate people living near the riverbank, while authorities used motorboats overnight to help people move their belongings and evacuate.

Early on the morning of August 27, the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting issued an urgent notice about floods on the Thao River (Red River section) in Yen Bai, which are likely to exceed alert level 3 by about 0.4m in the next 3 to 6 hours before gradually receding.

At the same time, the Luc Nam, Hoang Long, Ma and Ca rivers in Bac Ninh , Ninh Binh, Thanh Hoa and Nghe An provinces are also experiencing high flood levels. The meteorological agency assessed the flood disaster risk level at level 3, warning of the risk of landslides, flooding and serious traffic disruption in many areas.

Many places in the North are still having heavy rain.

This morning, August 27, the Department of Dyke Management and Natural Disaster Prevention (Ministry of Agriculture and Environment) also announced that heavy rains continued to occur in many provinces in the North of our country, including Lao Cai and Thanh Hoa. The amount of rain measured from the night of August 26 to the early morning of August 27 in some places reached over 150mm, causing great pressure on the urban drainage system and dykes.

In the next 24 to 48 hours, the midlands, deltas and coastal areas of the North, Son La, Lao Cai, Thanh Hoa will continue to have moderate to heavy rain, with some places having very heavy rain.

Mr. Nguyen Xuan Hien, Deputy Director of the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, warned that the focus of rain is concentrated in the Northern Delta and midlands. The rain may last until the end of August. The cause is due to the circulation of storm No. 8 and the Southeast wind from the ground up to an altitude of 5,000m.

Meanwhile, international meteorological forecasting agencies have said that today, August 27, a new low pressure area from the East of the Philippines could enter the East Sea with a high probability of becoming a tropical depression. Therefore, the weather in the North and at sea will continue to be bad and unpredictable.
