Farmers in Hon Dat district prepare the land to sow the 2025 autumn-winter rice crop.
Phase 1 starts sowing from July 1 to 15 for the summer-autumn rice harvest area from late May to June 23, including Giang Thanh district, most of the area of Giong Rieng, Hon Dat, Chau Thanh districts and part of Rach Gia city.
Phase 2 starts sowing from July 25 to August 10 for the summer-autumn rice harvest area from late June to late July 2025, including Go Quao district, the remaining parts of Giong Rieng, Tan Hiep, Hon Dat, Chau Thanh districts and Rach Gia city.
The Department of Agriculture and Environment recommends that people should use high-quality rice varieties that meet market requirements, have a short growth period, are strong to limit lodging, and are resistant to pests such as OM18, Dai Thom 8, OM5451...; sow sparsely with a seed quantity of 70-100 kg/ha.
After harvesting summer-autumn rice, farmers need to plow the land and turn over the rice stubble to kill rice hoppers, rice stubble, and weeds that are hosts to brown planthoppers, limiting the spread of viral diseases. Farmers need to ensure a gap of at least 20 days between two crops to limit the spread of pests and give enough time for the rice straw in the field to decompose, limit organic poisoning, and create healthy rice plants from the seedling stage.
Farmers are advised to apply technical measures such as integrated pest management (IPM), 3 reductions 3 increases, 1 must 5 reductions, according to the technical process of producing high-quality and low-emission rice in the Mekong Delta, and use pesticides according to the principle of 4 correct, safe, and effective in production.
