On July 13, specialist doctor Nguyen Thanh Tung, Head of the Department of Plastic and Cosmetic Surgery, Thai Nguyen Central Hospital, said that he had successfully reattached the severed hand of a male TikToker in Thai Nguyen.
"Currently, patient NH is stable, alert, able to eat and talk normally. Both hands are rosy, warm, and have good blood circulation," said Dr. Tung.
According to Dr. Tung, the surgery lasted from 7 p.m. the day before to 1 a.m. the next day. When admitted to the hospital, the patient's right wrist was almost completely amputated, with only 1.5 cm of skin remaining. The doctor was forced to amputate the part of the hand that had lost its blood supply to perform microsurgical reattachment.
The patient's left hand was severely injured, with a longitudinal wound through the gap between the 4th and 5th fingers, severed tendons, loss of bone mass, damage to the palmar vascular arches, and the threat of necrosis of the 5th finger.
In addition, the patient also suffered an injury to his right leg with a deep laceration close to the popliteal artery. Although the artery was not punctured, the lateral popliteal tendon and lateral popliteal sciatic nerve were severed, leading to paralysis of dorsiflexion and external rotation of the foot.
During the surgery, the doctors reconnected the wrist bones, 22 tendons in the wrist area, and microsurgically reconnected the ulnar nerve, median nerve, and radial nerve sensory branch. The radial and ulnar arteries and four veins were reconnected to ensure blood return to the right hand.
For the left hand, the doctor reattached the bone, tendons, nerves and blood vessels, ensuring that the 5th finger did not become necrotic.
The patient is now able to move his fingers. It is expected that in the next 10 days, if the patient's condition is stable, doctors will reconnect the nerves to restore sensation and motor function.
Previously, a male Tiktoker named NH (residing in Thai Nguyen) was chased and seriously injured by a group of people on the street. The initial cause was determined to be a debt dispute, which the victim had mentioned publicly many times on his personal page with more than 25,000 followers.
