Customs officers in Hekou, Yunnan, China inspect the first batch of imported fresh coconuts from Vietnam.

According to information from Kunming Customs, Yunnan, on October 15, a shipment of 30 tons of fresh coconuts from Vietnam cleared customs and entered the country through the Hekou border gate in this province. This is the first shipment of fresh coconuts from Vietnam imported by road to China.

According to the country’s media, the process of harvesting and transporting fresh coconuts to the border gate took less than 3 days. After completing entry procedures and being inspected by customs officers, the shipment was taken to a distribution center in Kunming city for consumption in the localities.

Ms. Wang Yanfen, Head of the First Gate Supervision Department of Hekou Customs, said: "We have pre-determined the main monitoring points for Vietnamese fresh coconuts, arranged specialized personnel and checkpoints at each customs clearance stage, prioritized on-site inspections and strict verification of commodity certificates upon arrival, and made full use of intelligent inspection equipment to help Vietnamese fresh coconuts quickly reach the market."

On the same afternoon, a shipment of 22.4 tons of fresh Vietnamese coconuts was transported to the Friendship Border Gate in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and cleared into the Chinese market after passing inspection. According to the customs at this border gate, this is the first shipment of fresh Vietnamese coconuts imported into Guangxi.

Mr. Jiang Bin, customs declaration manager of Guangxi Guanglichang International Freight Forwarding Agency Co., Ltd., is very satisfied with the speed of customs clearance at the border gate.

“The customs clearance time was less than 2 hours. Our customers were very satisfied with the clearance speed at Huu Nghi border gate and have planned for the next step of importing large quantities," said Mr. Jiang Bin.

In August 2024, Vietnamese fresh coconuts were officially allowed to be exported to China. According to the leader of the Vietnam Coconut Association, many large units have signed contracts to export 30-50 containers, and some businesses have even signed orders to supply 1,500 containers of coconuts to China. This shows the great potential of Vietnamese fresh coconut products in this market.

It is known that the first batches of fresh Vietnamese coconuts exported to China all originated from Ben Tre . This is the latest achievement of the two countries in promoting the import and export of high-quality agricultural products, deepening trade cooperation, in order to implement the spirit of the Joint Statements reached between the two sides in recent times.
