Previously, on October 2, the Hai Phong Department of Population and Family Planning organized a conference to discuss and exchange with families benefiting from the "Policy to encourage and support the control of gender imbalance at birth" according to Resolution No. 15/2022 of the Hai Phong City People's Council, in response to the International Day of the Girl Child on October 11.
In 2011, the United Nations General Assembly chose October 11 every year as the International Day of the Girl Child. The purpose of this day is to raise awareness of gender equality in the fields ofeducation , nutrition, health, etc.
International Day of the Girl Child also aims to promote the community to implement policies to support and enhance the role and status of girls in particular and women in general, especially girls in families where only one child is a girl.
In Vietnam, gender imbalance at birth is a challenge for population work. In 2023, the national boy/girl ratio was 112/100, in Hai Phong it was 110.8/100.
Gender inequality is the fundamental cause of increasing gender imbalance at birth, and conversely, gender imbalance will deepen the problem of gender inequality, and adolescent girls are the most vulnerable.
This year's International Day of the Girl Child has the theme "Vision for the future of girls", which is an important message to raise awareness and responsibility of the Party Committee, government, departments, branches, organizations and people of Hai Phong City in promoting the role and enhancing the position of women and girls.
Governments, organizations, individuals and citizens need to create conditions for girls to enter adulthood safely and equally. The State, family and society working together to protect the rights of girls today is to ensure a fairer future.
Speaking at the Conference, Ms. Tran Thi Thu Hang, Head of the Hai Phong Department of Population and Family Planning, said: In recent years, all levels, sectors and localities of Hai Phong City have had many activities and jobs to contribute to the goal of promoting gender equality.
In particular, in 2022, the Hai Phong City People's Council issued Resolution No. 15/NQ-HDND stipulating a number of incentive and support policies for collectives and individuals who perform well in population work in the city.

Resolution 15 of Hai Phong has a policy of encouragement and one-time support of 5 million VND for couples of childbearing age who have 2 daughters and are recognized as typical cultural families at the city level.
The above support from Hai Phong is one of the policies that shows the city's leaders' concern for population work and timely encourages and motivates couples to implement population policies well, contributing to the goal of promoting gender equality.
At the conference, delegates listened to a report assessing the city's gender imbalance at birth and a report on the results of policy implementation according to Article 4 of Resolution No. 15/2022/NQ-HDND in 2023. Delegates exchanged and shared their views and perceptions on gender equality and the implementation of population policies.
