Agent Ethan Hunt and his associates in the eighth film.
The movie is showing in theaters nationwide.
In part 7, Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) and his teammates capture 2 pieces of the key to stop the plot to destroy humanity of an advanced artificial intelligence (AI) technology called the Entity. In this part, Ethan and the IMF team including: Benji (Simon Pegg), Luther (Ving Rhames) and new partner Grace (Hayley Atwell) continue to carry out an impossible mission: diving to the bottom of the sea in the Arctic, using 2 halves of the key to find the Entity's source code in a sunken Russian submarine and find a way to destroy the Entity. They must race against time to complete the mission before the Entity detonates nuclear weapons in the world it has invaded...
It can be said that this is a film to reminisce about the journey of nearly 3 decades with the audience, so the film spends a lot of time reviewing old memories. Many images, characters, and content of previous films are repeated, partly because they are related to the current story, partly to summarize Ethan Hunt's journey. Besides, the film takes a lot of time to explain the details, conspiracies, and politics but has little action, so the first 2/3 of the film passes in the audience's fatigue because of the long, drawn-out content. Only near the end, when the whole team rushes into battle, can the audience find the excitement and suspense of the familiar action film.
At this point, the movie really exploded with action scenes, eye-catching chases, and tense mind games. Once again, Tom Cruise made everyone amazed when, at the age of 62, he directly performed the risky scenes: from close combat, shooting, diving to chasing each other by plane... In particular, the good coordination and having excellent partners are the reasons for Ethan's success in seemingly impossible missions. The audience was both excitedly following Ethan's chase on the plane, and tense with the team of partners preventing the atomic bomb from exploding in the bunker; worried about the final decision of the US President when he chose to sacrifice millions of people to save the world, or trusted Ethan's team. If just 1 of the 3 actions did not match, the Earth would fall into a catastrophic disaster...
“Mission Impossible 8” brings a spectacular ending in terms of visuals, but it is not really satisfying in terms of emotions and content depth. Although it is nearly 3 hours long, the film reveals many problems in terms of structure, plot and character development. Many segments drag on and on and too much dialogue makes the film less suspenseful and dramatic. The AI villain is said to be extremely dangerous, but from beginning to end, it is only through human words and descriptions, not revealed at all. The Entity only exists as an abstract concept, lacking valuable scenes to create pressure and increase the appeal of the film. The film's developments follow a conventional linear order, without any unexpected twists. Therefore, the film lacks breakthroughs, novelty or creates an unforgettable impression on the audience.
The plus point of the film is its emphasis on the consequences, on "karma" when human society is too dependent on technology, worshiping it to the point of losing control, creating conditions for AI to pose an existential threat to humanity.
