Officials of the Women's Union of Tra Noc ward visited and learned about the lives of members of the traditional cake making group.
Together with the staff of the Women's Union of Tra Noc Ward, we visited and learned about some economic models, creating jobs for many female members. Notable among them is the model of the Cooperative Group (THT) making traditional cakes, established in 2022, currently creating stable jobs for 10 members, with an income of 3-5 million VND/person/month. The cakes of the THT such as: banh tet, banh in, com gao, rau jelly co co... are known and trusted by many customers inside and outside the district. Ms. Do Thi Kieu Oanh, a member of the Cooperative Group making traditional cakes, said: "My hometown is Dong Thap, I got married and moved to Tra Noc and joined the Cooperative Group for nearly 2 years now. Currently, my bakery has an income of about 5 million VND/month and creates regular jobs for 3 female workers, with a salary of 20,000 VND/hour for extra work".
The cooperative model of sewing sports gloves was established and maintained effectively by the Association for more than 10 years. The group currently provides jobs for 28 women, with an income of 3-5 million VND/person/month. Ms. Tran Thi Them, a cooperative member, said: “Before, I was a housewife and took my children to school. Encouraged by the Association’s officials, I took advantage of the time to finish housework and then join the women in making gloves. Thanks to this job, I have a monthly income of about 3 million VND.”
The Women's Union of Tra Noc Ward established and maintained 9 groups borrowing capital from the Bank for Social Policies, supporting 485 households to borrow capital, with an outstanding debt of more than 23 billion VND. At the same time, it established and maintained 32 revolving capital groups without interest, with 549 members. Previously, the family of Ms. Phan Thi Thanh Huyen, Women's Union of Area 2, faced many difficulties. Ms. Huyen's husband is a sales employee, she is a housewife, and has 2 school-age children. She was supported by the Women's Union of the Ward to apply for a loan from the Bank for Social Policies to invest in a breakfast shop. She cooks well and is enthusiastic, so the shop is always crowded. Ms. Huyen confided: "Every day, after deducting expenses, I earn more than 200,000 VND, saving up to pay for my children's education."
During the 4 years of the 2021-2026 term, the Women's Union of Tra Noc Ward coordinated with the Women's Union branches to mobilize care for cadres and members in difficult circumstances on holidays and Tet, with a total value of nearly 400 million VND. At the same time, mobilized support for the construction and repair of 4 Charity Houses for women in difficult housing circumstances, worth 108 million VND... Ms. Nguyen Thi Phung's family in area 2 was previously considered a poor household. The family's old house was degraded but there were no conditions to repair it. In 2023, the Women's Union of the Ward mobilized benefactors to support her with 30 million VND for house repair costs. The Union also introduced Ms. Phung to do housework, providing additional income to cover living expenses. At the end of 2023, Ms. Phung's family was considered to have escaped poverty.
Ms. Le Thi Kieu Nuong, President of the Women's Union of Tra Noc Ward, informed: Through many practical care and support activities, over the past 4 years, the Union has helped 25 poor and near-poor households with women to escape poverty and near-poverty and currently there are no poor and near-poor female members. The Women's Union of the ward will continue to build, maintain and improve the quality of the model to support members in developing the economy effectively; support timely loans so that women have the conditions to invest in production, business, and small trading. Thereby, contributing to helping members improve their living standards, build prosperous, progressive and happy families.
