The Global Independent Market Research Network (WIN) has just released the World AI Index 2025. Vietnam made a strong impression by ranking 6th out of 40 countries surveyed.
This result is calculated based on 7 component indicators related to artificial intelligence. Including usage, trust, acceptance, effectiveness, usability, comfort and interest in AI.
Vietnam has achieved impressive results in two important indicators. Our country ranked 3rd globally in terms of trust in AI with 65.6 points, and ranked 5th in terms of acceptance of this technology with 71.6 points.
It is noteworthy that Vietnam surpassed many developed countries in the region. Countries such as South Korea, Australia and Japan all ranked behind Vietnam in the overall rankings.
The survey in Vietnam was conducted by Indochina Research, which surveyed 900 people in four major cities from December 2024 to January 2025.
The report shows a clear disparity between age groups and regions. The AI user group is mainly young people aged 18-34. They are concentrated in two major centers: Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi .
In the 18-24 age group, about 89% of people in Hanoi and 87% of people in Ho Chi Minh City have used AI. This figure drops sharply in Da Nang and Can Tho . Notably, only 1 in 10 people aged 55-64 in Da Nang have experienced this technology.
"The young generation of Vietnam is ready to embrace technology and that plays a big role in the country's rapid economic growth and digital transformation," said Mr. Xavier Depouilly, General Director of Indochina Research Vietnam.
Despite high confidence, actual AI usage in Vietnam remains low. The usage index only reached 37.6 points, ranking 17th out of 40 countries.
About 60% of people surveyed have used AI. However, only 3% of them use it on a daily basis. This is a big gap that needs to be closed.
Vietnamese people are most concerned about personal data security. 52% of survey respondents are worried about how AI collects and uses personal information.
48% of people fear being replaced by AI in their jobs. Interestingly, only 36% are concerned about misinformation and deepfakes. This is much lower than in developed countries in Europe and America.
Indochina Research assesses that Vietnam has many advantages to break through in the global AI race. High levels of trust and positive attitudes are important strengths.
However, to take advantage of this potential, concrete steps are needed. Vietnam needs to expand AI access to older populations and non-urban areas, and build a trustworthy, safe, and user-friendly AI ecosystem.
This development requires a combination of technology, policy, education and communication. The goal is to shorten the digital divide and spread technology to the whole population.
