Young people spread the historical autumn: Slow down a bit to admire history

Joining the atmosphere of the whole country towards the 80th National Day Celebration, besides the crowd of people cheering, there are creative activities of young people. This is both a way to spread the national spirit more strongly and an opportunity for each person to look back at their own very special connection with the country.

Keep feelings on every page of the letter

These days, at cultural sites in Hanoi such as the Temple of Literature, the Vietnam Fine Arts Museum, etc., people occasionally stop at the mailboxes with the words One Line for Vietnam, diligently writing handwritten letters. This is an activity organized by Hanoi Stories (a cultural project established by young people in Hanoi), calling on people to write letters to the country on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of National Day.

Many people come to the mailbox of the One Line for Vietnam project to send their feelings for the country through handwritten letters.

The event runs from August 28 to September 2. Participants can take the writing paper available at the mailbox to write a handwritten letter and drop it in the mailbox. In addition, participants can also send letters online by taking a photo or scanning the letter and sending it via the program's Instagram account. The letters will be posted publicly on social networks.

After only 2 days of organizing, more than 700 letters were sent. In addition, there were a series of articles shared on social networking platforms. All of them created a diverse and rich digital museum: there were foreign tourists congratulating Vietnam on its 80th birthday, there were students studying abroad sending messages about their homeland, there was a child who only knew how to draw but read letters for his mother to write on his behalf,... A line for Vietnam has no age limit, writing style or content of each letter, but is a place that clearly marks the patriotic beat of each heart. Sometimes it is pride, sometimes it is an apology, sometimes it is secret wishes that have never been expressed. The shape of the country appears not only through the map, but also through the feelings of the people who live and always turn their hearts to this place.

Sharing the idea, the representative of Hanoi Stories shared: “In the digital age, when everything is being swallowed by speed and fast news, I think writing a line by hand, slowly and seriously, is the way for us to fight against that oblivion. A line for Vietnam was born from that desire: not to do something big, but to open up a small space where memories are named, feelings are written down and gratitude is seen. Those honest handwritings, filled with personal feelings, will then be strung together, connecting the memories of 1945 with the breath of the 2025 era.”

The image of the country is present in the food

In order to convey the hardships of his ancestors during the resistance war, Mr. Tran Duc Hieu (29 years old, living in Hanoi) chose a unique approach: telling historical stories through wartime dishes. In the series "Dishes that make up the country" consisting of many short videos on the TikTok platform, Hieu filmed the process of making dishes associated with soldiers in the past: rice balls, Viet Minh canned meat, wild vegetables, bo bo,... The beginning of the video is always the saying: "There are meals that no one wants to remember, but history does not let me forget".

“For me, history begins with simple meals - the things that created national strength. Therefore, I hope to be able to retell that heroic story in the language of my generation, and at the same time spread inspiration to many other young people,” Tran Duc Hieu shared. To be able to accurately prepare the dishes, Hieu researched a lot, from memoirs, logistics documents to direct consultation with historical witnesses to ensure that the dishes were not only accurate in preparation but also associated with each specific historical context.

Each episode brings different emotions to Hieu and the audience, but above all, it is a shiver of sadness, gratitude, and happiness at being somewhat connected to the previous generation. He said: “These days, I think back to 1945 - when a poor nation still held its head high with international friends, barely having enough rice to stick to its teeth, but still nurturing the dream of independence.”

With the rapid development of information technology, young people have more and more initiatives in spreading and preserving beautiful memories of the great holidays. Not only beautiful photos, good articles, the story of the historic autumn also exists in videos with diverse content: the journey to learn about the red address, chatting with veterans, learning about traditional craft villages associated with history,... and no matter what form it is packaged in, the harmony of the hearts of all times has clearly shown the enthusiasm of a young generation that always turns their hearts towards their homeland.
