In all the villages and hamlets of the northern Thai Nguyen communes, hundreds of new houses have sprung up, replacing temporary, dilapidated roofs. This is a clear demonstration of the efforts of the government, the community and the people in organizing and implementing the project. The new roofs bring hope, safety and motivation to rise up, contributing to changing the face of the highlands and the lives of the people.

Stable life

In the newly completed house, Mr. Ca Van Phong happily shared: Before, the family lived in a wooden house with a roof covered with fibro cement sheets that had been leaking for a long time, and the wooden walls were rotten. Every rainy season, water leaked from all sides, just a strong wind would splash water in, many nights the whole family had to huddle in a corner to avoid the leak.

Thanks to the attention and support of 60 million VND from the Party and the State, plus additional loans, the family has built a house of nearly 100 square meters, including four bedrooms, a corrugated iron roof, with a total value of more than 300 million VND. Now, Mr. Phong and his family have a safe and secure place to live, and at the same time have the motivation to grow more fruit trees, raise pigs and chickens, aiming to escape poverty and improve their lives.

Just a few hundred meters from Mr. Phong's house, Mr. Quan Van Quynh's house is in the final stages of completion. Mr. Quynh excitedly shared: When the commune announced that the family would receive financial support to build a house, I took the initiative to dismantle the old wooden house. There were only two of us, but the brothers in the village and commune also came to help with the dismantling, digging the foundation, and transporting materials.

After two months of construction, the solid house was basically completed, with shiny tiled floors. Thanks to the support of the Party and the State, plus additional loans, the family was able to build a house worth over 100 million VND. Now, rain and wind are no longer a concern like before.

The story of Mr. Phong and Mr. Quynh is just one of hundreds of joys present in the northern communes of Thai Nguyen , where the movement to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses is spreading strongly.

In Nghien Loan, one of the communes with a large number of houses to be demolished with 292, 165 have been completed so far. Bang Thanh commune with 327 houses, has completed 212 houses so far; the remaining part has completed over 50% of the volume. Thuong Minh commune, out of a total of 284 houses, has completed 197 houses; the remaining 87 houses started construction in July and are taking advantage of favorable weather, mobilizing maximum human resources and machinery to complete on schedule. Cao Minh commune, has completed 450 houses, 365 have been completed so far; the remaining part started construction in mid-July 2025 and is concentrating forces to carry it out.

Since early July 2025, communes and wards in the North of the province have established and completed commune-level steering committees, assigned members to be in charge of each household, and directly went to the grassroots to propagate, mobilize and guide procedures for building and repairing houses. Many communes have reviewed and adjusted the list of supported households to ensure the right beneficiaries, no omissions, and timely supplemented new households.

Community joins hands to eliminate temporary housing

Implementing the direction of the Provincial Party Committee and the People's Committee of Thai Nguyen province on eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses, the northern communes, especially the highlands such as Bang Thanh, Cao Minh, Nghien Loan, have drastically implemented many solutions, mobilizing the participation of the entire political system, community and people. The program not only improves living conditions but also motivates people to rise up and escape poverty sustainably.

Mr. Duong Van Quynh, Chairman of Nghien Loan Commune People's Committee, shared: Nghien Loan has rugged mountainous terrain, many households live in remote areas, transportation of materials is difficult, especially during the rainy season. Supplies such as bricks and sand are scarce, prices fluctuate, causing costs to increase. In addition, the customs of ethnic minorities cause some households to delay starting construction to choose a good day and month.

To overcome this, the commune mobilized the militia, youth union, women's union, and commune officials to transport materials, level the ground, and support people with labor. Many households also received material support from the community. The Steering Committee regularly inspected and urged progress and promptly resolved problems.

Building a new house in the highlands is not easy. In the rainy season, the dirt roads are slippery, the trucks carrying materials often have to stop in the middle of the slope, people have to carry each bag of cement, each brick. In some places, to get to the house, you have to cross rivers and streams, waiting for the water to recede before transporting the materials. In addition, the supply is scarce, prices are rising, causing the people's counterpart costs to increase.

Despite the difficulties, thanks to the help of soldiers, police, militia, youth union members, and women's union members, most households have had their problems resolved and are continuing the process of building new houses.

The program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses in the northern communes of Thai Nguyen has become a widespread movement, uniting the community. People contribute labor, money, support transportation… all working towards the goal of completing new houses as soon as possible.

With the determination of the government, the consensus of the people and timely support resources, the numbers in the report do not stop at statistics, but turn into hundreds of warm homes, hundreds of bright smiles. The completion of new houses has contributed to changing the face of the highland countryside, improving people's lives, and at the same time successfully achieving the goal of sustainable poverty reduction and new rural construction.
