People in Cu Chi commune voluntarily transfer rare yellow-cheeked gibbons

On August 20, information from the Cu Chi Forest Protection Department under the Ho Chi Minh City Forest Protection Department said that the unit had just received, cared for, raised and released into the wild a yellow-cheeked gibbon, a long-tailed macaque and a pig-tailed macaque voluntarily transferred by local people.

Specifically, the yellow-cheeked gibbon , scientifically named Nomascus gabriellae, weighing about 3kg, was voluntarily handed over by a resident in Cu Chi commune.

The long-tailed macaque, scientifically known as Macaca fascicularis, weighs about 6kg, and the pig-tailed macaque, scientifically known as Macaca leonina, weighs about 4kg, were voluntarily handed over by a resident of Tan An Hoi commune.

According to the people, these three animals were gifts, given to them when they were young.

The yellow-cheeked gibbon belongs to group IB, while the long-tailed and pig-tailed macaques both belong to group IIB in the list of endangered, precious, and rare species according to Circular No. 27/2025/TT-BNNMT of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment .

After being cared for and having their health checked to ensure they meet survival conditions, the three animals will be released back into the natural environment in accordance with the law, specifically Circular No. 26/2025/TT-BNNMT of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment regulating the management of forest products, handling of forest products, and aquatic products that are assets with established ownership rights of the entire people.
