New Zealand Foreign Minister visits 4 Southeast Asian countries

New Zealand Foreign Minister Winston Peters will visit Southeast Asian countries from June 5-13.

Speaking ahead of the trip, Foreign Minister Peters said: “Southeast Asia is vital to New Zealand’s security and prosperity. My visit to the region is a further demonstration of the Coalition Government ’s strong commitment to strengthening New Zealand’s engagement with Southeast Asia.”

Specifically, Foreign Minister Winston Peters will visit Vietnam (June 5-6). In Vietnam, he is expected to meet with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, hold talks with Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son and Head of the Central External Relations Commission Le Hoai Trung.

Visiting Malaysia from June 7 to 8, Foreign Minister Peters will meet with host Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and hold a Foreign Ministers' Meeting under the New Zealand-Malaysia Strategic Partnership.

After a stop in Malaysia, the New Zealand Foreign Minister will visit the Philippines from June 9-10, meeting with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and Foreign Minister Enrique Manalo. The final leg of the tour is a visit to Timor Leste from June 11-12, where Peters will meet with President José Ramos-Horta and other senior Timor Leste officials.

It will be the first visit to Timor Leste by a New Zealand foreign minister in more than a decade. Mr Peters will return to New Zealand on June 13.
