On August 11, Mr. Phan Thanh Hai, Director of the Department of Culture and Sports of Hue City, said that the City People's Committee has just issued a plan to restore the national treasure, the Nguyen Dynasty throne, which was broken by visitors.
Apply appropriate technology to preserve the original elements to the maximum
The goal of the plan to restore the national treasure of the Nguyen Dynasty throne in the current period is to return it to the state most similar to the time of building the dossier of the object to propose recognition as a national treasure in 2015.
In particular, the restoration of the throne must comply with museological principles, based on scientific and historical data; using appropriate measures, techniques and technologies to preserve the original elements to the maximum extent.
The gold is restored to its original details before the artifact was damaged, without creating additional patterns or motifs, without renewing the artifact, and retaining the original traces if it does not affect the structure.
Restoration uses materials compatible with the original materials, giving priority to reusing techniques and materials that were used in the creation of the artifact.
The restoration of the national treasure, the Nguyen Dynasty throne, must comply with the procedures, principles, and techniques of preservation and restoration and be in accordance with relevant customs, practices, and beliefs and must be carried out by qualified, skilled, and experienced people, and by agencies and organizations with appropriate functions and tasks.
After restoration, the artifacts must ensure that the causes of damage are eliminated to the maximum extent, the solidity and durability are increased, safety is ensured, and the shape, size, and aesthetics are preserved. The restoration of artifacts can only be carried out when the solutions are approved by competent authorities.
The Nguyen Dynasty throne will be re-displayed in its old location.
The restoration process is expected to include 9 steps, including: preparing the restoration site, moving the treasure, scientific cleaning, cleaning the artifact and fragments. repositioning the fragments into a block, repositioning the complete artifact, stabilizing the lacquer and gilding layers, restoring the lacquer and gilding layers, protective coating and organizing acceptance.
After restoration, the Nguyen Dynasty throne will be re-displayed in its original location at Thai Hoa Palace. The preservation plan for the treasure will be implemented according to relevant national standards.
Hue City People's Committee assigned the Department of Culture and Sports of the city to review and appraise the content of the Plan to restore the national treasure "Nguyen Dynasty Throne" to submit to the People's Committee for promulgation according to the guidance of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism as prescribed, advise the committee to establish a professional council, and supervise the process of restoring the national treasure "Nguyen Dynasty Throne".
Assign the Hue Monuments Conservation Center to regularly monitor, report to the City People's Committee, the professional council, and supervise the restoration process of the national treasure, the Nguyen Dynasty throne.
Direct the Hue Royal Antiquities Museum to directly monitor, supervise, and coordinate with consulting units to establish technical designs and restoration plans for the national treasures of the Nguyen Dynasty throne to absorb and supplement any arising issues during the restoration process to submit to relevant levels for appraisal and approval.
Hue Royal Antiquities Museum directly supervised the restoration process, organized the selection of a construction unit with experience in the conservation, restoration of relics, and restoration of artifacts, with highly skilled artisans and construction teams participating in the restoration of the throne.
Develop construction measures suitable to the specific characteristics of the work of preserving, restoring and repairing national artifacts and treasures, and submit them to the investor for approval or appraisal according to regulations.
Direct the construction unit to preserve the original elements to the maximum extent, strictly follow technical procedures, and all impacts related to artifacts and national treasures must be under the inspection and approval of competent State agencies.
