The Russian Foreign Minister said that the above view was agreed by the leaders of the five nuclear powers in early 2022.

According to Mr. Sergei Lavrov, in the current context, it is necessary to prevent any military confrontation between nuclear powers, because this has the potential to turn into a nuclear war. The most important task is for each nuclear power to maintain compliance with its commitments and exercise maximum restraint.

Mr. Sergei Lavrov reaffirmed that Russia's policy in the field of nuclear deterrence is purely defensive in nature, aiming to maintain the potential of nuclear forces at the minimum level necessary to protect national security.
