As a result, the first prize was awarded to author Giai Du (born in 2001) with the manuscript of the long story What to do when the wind blows. After the first round with 16 authors and works awarded, the Vietnam Writers Association has just announced the second round of the Children's Literature Creation Campaign, which will last until July 2026. The Children's Literature Creation Contest - Fairy Tale Flower has been held 7 times and is in its 8th season, accepting entries until July 31.
These awards have become a place to recruit talents and a creative platform for writers who are passionate about children's literature. Associate Professor, Dr. Bui Thanh Truyen, Chairman of the Council of Theory and Criticism - Ho Chi Minh City Writers Association, said that the excitement of these awards has helped children's literature receive more attention, thereby contributing to the development of reading culture.
Accompanying creativity
According to Ms. Vu Thi Quynh Lien, Editor-in-Chief of Kim Dong Publishing House, the results of the 2023-2025 Children's Writing Campaign surprised the organizers. Since the previous organization was held 10 years ago, when the first Kim Dong Literature Award was launched, it was very positively received by writers, both professional and amateur.
“At author meetings and exchanges between authors and readers across the country, we feel their enthusiasm, excitement and energy. Perhaps young authors just need a little push and feel motivated, mainly spiritually, to be able to create powerfully. I think the award itself is not the main motivation, what is important is that authors see the position of literature in life, literary events, and books still receive the attention of publishing units, the press and the public,” said Ms. Vu Thi Quynh Lien.
Before the work What to do when the sky is windy, in 3 consecutive years, Giai Du published a number of works such as: Chieu chieu crow talked to kite (2023), Kien troi (2024) and Lan Tinh (2025). However, according to Giai Du, the work What to do when the sky is windy was written before Kien troi and Lan Tinh. Therefore, receiving the award this time is like an honor for him two years ago, when he was still a student with many new things in the process of stepping out into the big world .
“The award is an opportunity for me to look back at my early writing process with the works that have been released, as well as a good launching pad for future works. In the future, I will continue to write new topics, perhaps I will not be able to return to children's literature in the near future, but what I want to write, will write and will release are all in the preparation process,” author Giai Du expressed.
“Of course, writers are motivated first and foremost by their inner urges, but if they are given attention through awards, they will feel more or less encouraged and motivated, thereby having more motivation to create. Not to mention the resonance between writers. Specifically, when an award appears, writers will encourage and even create positive pressure for each other to create together. From there, making children's literature more abundant and developed,” Associate Professor, Dr. Bui Thanh Truyen, Chairman of the Council of Theory and Criticism - Ho Chi Minh City Writers Association, shared.
