When the People's Police do journalism

BDK - I remember just a few days ago when I was still a "newbie" but now it has been more than 10 years since I joined the team of journalists in the People's Public Security force. I majored in journalism, was recruited by the Provincial Public Security and assigned to work at the Propaganda Team (now the Propaganda, Emulation and Reward Team) under the Political Work Department. Although I worked in my major, writing about security and order (ANTT) was a challenge for me. Because this is not an easy field to write about or approach, there are many cases that will be very difficult during the work process.

Pursue your passion to the end

During the course of work, due to work requirements, each of us had to practice and master all skills such as: writing, filming, taking photos, editing, even the role of MC, announcer... With the guidance of my senior teammates, my initial confusion and difficulties were quickly overcome. I am truly grateful and appreciate my teammates, not only "holding my hand to show me the way", but they have always passed on to me the passion for the profession, so that today, I am completely confident when carrying out my tasks.

Where I work now, only 3 people are trained in journalism, the rest graduated from other majors, but because of their talent and affinity for writing, they were transferred to this field. However, the reporters and editors have devoted themselves to pursuing their passion to the end, affirming their professionalism through their journalistic works.

When it comes to the person who “ignites the fire” for us, we must mention Lieutenant Colonel Ngo Thanh Liem - former Head of the Propaganda, Emulation and Reward Team. To us, Mr. Liem is both a comrade, an older brother and a teacher in the profession. Although he did not major in journalism, he is very enthusiastic about journalism! Many of his journalistic works have won high prizes in competitions organized by the Ministry of Public Security . He often reminds us that today's propaganda officers must be “good at one thing, know many things”, “good at one thing” is to promote one's own skills and strengths, “know many things” to be ready to serve well the current work requirements.

Although not a press agency, the Provincial Police always grasps the current trend of updating multi-platform information of the public, directly implementing, producing, broadcasting, and posting multi-platform security programs, expressed through many types of press such as television ( Ben Tre Security, Security and Order Focus), radio (ANTT Radio Column) and print newspaper (ANTT Page). The nature of the work is to perform on time and schedule to be on time for broadcasting and in the newspaper, causing a lot of pressure for the brothers; there are often unexpected tasks. Although it is so hard, but seeing the "fruits of labor" being received by the public, with positive feedback, joy is rekindled. That is the motivation and goal of the soldiers on the press front.

Soldier "one profession, two careers"

Working as journalists in the police force, we get to travel, live, and experience the hardships, the hardships, and the silent sacrifices of countless comrades and teammates. Accompanying our brothers in many complicated cases from national security to social order and safety, every most authentic moment is recorded through each film not only to serve propaganda work but also as evidence and documents serving the professional work of the industry.

Often working with criminal and narcotics detectives to ambush gambling and drug dens, we reporters have to disguise ourselves and hide to film criminals committing crimes as evidence. Upon receiving the assignment, we understand that we must simultaneously perform two roles, both as a detective and as a reporter (these are also two "careers" that propaganda officers in the police force must carry out); closely monitor all actions of the subjects, ensure that the recorded images meet the requirements but also ensure the element of secrecy (secrecy from the time of receiving the assignment until the implementation and completion of the assignment). If we let any loopholes be exposed, it will not only affect the overall "catching" plan but also be dangerous for ourselves, but with our professional skills and abilities, we always complete our tasks well. The valuable images that have been recorded serve the audience and are also solid evidence that lawbreakers cannot deny.

Proud to be a police officer with “one job, two careers”, we are ready to go on duty anywhere, anytime. For us, being able to go, feel and write about the police officer, about the role of the people in the cause of protecting security and order is a happiness.
