Earlier, on the morning of June 16, Giang Ho (25 years old) and his aunt Cu Mua (32 years old), both living in Cao Son commune (Muong Khuong district, Lao Cai), went to My Dinh 2 ward police station ( Hanoi ) to report being overcharged. According to Giang Ho, because they were not familiar with the roads, they only knew that there was a Truc Nghiu bus station from My Dinh bus station to Muong Khuong.

However, upon arrival, a man claiming to be a representative of the bus company said that the bus had already left the station and "enthusiastically" called two motorbike taxi drivers to help chase after it. The two motorbike taxi drivers took the aunt and her nephew a short distance and then stopped, saying that the bus had entered the highway and could not turn back. The two motorbike taxi drivers continued to call a taxi and announced that they would take the aunt and her nephew to the pick-up point at Km 23 of the Noi Bai - Lao Cai highway, for a price of 700,000 VND (including the transportation fee and the bus fare).

Mr. Giang Ho and Ms. Cu Mua were overcharged for taxi and motorbike taxi fares when they went to Hanoi to visit a sick person.

However, when he was almost there, the taxi driver suddenly asked Mr. Giang Ho to pay 4.2 million VND, otherwise he would turn the car back to My Dinh bus station. In a panic and without cash, Mr. Giang Ho had to call home and ask his relatives to transfer 4 million VND to the taxi driver's QR code. He then gave him another 200,000 VND in cash, bringing the total amount of money stolen to 4.2 million VND.
