Myanmar declares state of emergency, calls for international aid

According to foreign media, Commander-in-Chief Min Aung Hlaing visited a hospital in the capital Nay Pyi Daw, where injured victims are being treated after the disaster.

Myanmar authorities have not yet released official information about the damage. However, because the earthquake only had a depth of 10km, the impact could be very strong.

Images posted on the country’s websites show many high-rise buildings tilted or collapsed. It is predicted that the material and human damage could be huge.

In Thailand, the capital Bangkok has declared a "disaster zone" after suffering severe damage caused by earthquake aftershocks from its neighbor.

The governor of Bangkok has been tasked with coordinating the emergency response. According to the latest information released, at least two people have died in the capital area.

Meanwhile, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced his readiness to provide all assistance to Myanmar and Thailand. Sharing on social media, the Indian leader wrote: "India prays for the safety and health of all." He announced that India is ready to provide all necessary assistance and he personally instructed the authorities to be on standby.
