RT today, January 28, quoted Mayor Mikhail Minenkov of the Russian city of Nevinnomyssk, emphasizing that the fact that in Nevinnomyssk, which has a population of about 117,000 people, only about 700 children are born each year is not satisfactory.
According to Mayor Minenkov, there are various reasons why people do not want to have children, including "the belief that they do not earn enough money or the desire to live for themselves". However, Mr. Minenkov warned that low birth rates are the path to "degeneration" of society.

There are apparently more than 700 “healthy, capable mothers” in Nevinnomyssk, Mr Minenkov stressed.
"I want to talk to men. Tonight, meet your loved ones so that in exactly nine months, not 700 but 10,000 children will be born," Mr. Minenkov said in a video on his Telegram channel on January 24. He also stressed that in order to increase the birth rate, "people should not sleep, eat or drink, but love."
Mayor Minenkov, who has three children, admitted that his appeal “sounds funny”, but he stressed that social development through bringing more children into the world is “the main development program of our city, our region and all of Russia”.
Earlier, Russia's state statistics agency Rosstat reported this month that 1.16 million people were born in Russia between January and November 2023, down 19.3% from the same period in 2022.
Rosstat also released demographic forecasts for 2046. In the most optimistic scenario, Russia's population will increase by 4.59 million people to reach 150.87 million by then. In the pessimistic scenario, the number of people living in Russia could decrease by 15.4 million to 130.6 million by 2046, according to RT.
