On June 6, a representative of the Ho Chi Minh City Eye Hospital said that recently, this place has supported free surgery for 4 children with cataracts, in a family of 7 children who were cared for and raised by their grandfather, because their parents divorced and left.
To continue to encourage and support the above situation, Ho Chi Minh City Eye Hospital continued to organize a working group to visit and give gifts to the families of the children in Cai Lay district, Tien Giang province on the same morning. This is also a regular social activity of the Eye Hospital, on the occasion of the Month of Action for Children.

Previously, on January 16, Mr. Tran Van Ba (residing in Hamlet 2, Phu Cuong, Cai Lay District, Tien Giang Province) brought his two grandchildren, Th. (13 years old) and H. (12 years old) to the hospital for examination in a state of blurred vision that had been getting worse over the past 4 months.
After examination, the doctor diagnosed that the children had cataracts in both eyes and needed to be hospitalized for surgery. After being hospitalized, the team of doctors and nurses from the Pediatric Ophthalmology Department visited and cared for them, so they knew that their family situation was especially difficult.
Specifically, Mr. Tran Van Ba is raising and taking care of 7 grandchildren by selling lottery tickets to earn a living every day. The two children Th. and H. are among the 7 grandchildren that Mr. Ba is raising. After the divorce, the children's parents abandoned their children and disappeared.
Armed with the above information, the Pediatric Ophthalmology Department proposed that the Social Work Department establish a profile to support free eye surgery for the children. The surgery was later successful.
Next, the hospital provided transportation for Mr. Ba’s family’s remaining five children to the hospital for eye screening and surgery. Through screening, doctors discovered that two more children, Ng. (9 years old) and Tr. (7 years old), also had cataracts.
Each child has one eye that needs immediate surgery and one eye that needs corrective glasses, monitoring, and surgery scheduled for later. Currently, the children are in stable condition.
During the visit on June 6, Ho Chi Minh City Eye Hospital presented gifts and a motorbike for Mr. Ba to use as a means of earning a living and to take the children to school more conveniently. Specialist 2 Doctor Le Anh Tuan, Director of the Hospital, also directly asked the family about the children's eye condition after surgery.
For the two children Ng. and Tr., Mr. Tuan reminded the doctors to create conditions and monitor for early surgery.
On this occasion, the delegation of Ho Chi Minh City Eye Hospital also had a survey trip to support the development of ophthalmology expertise for Can Tho General Hospital.
